Master of the Ocean is Back

For the ninth consecutive year, Cabarete has welcomed the “Master of the Ocean” sporting event that brings together the world’s best surfers, kite-surfers and windsurfers who will compete to be the “king of the waves.” This year there is a new event: stand up paddle surfing, the fastest growing water sport of this decade.

“We return this year with the same enthusiasm as always and this year with the same idea of contributing to the development of Cabarete and its people, above all the young people who see this sport, and our event, as a positive and progressive activity,”

Event organizers report that this ninth edition of this popular competition will take place from April 5-10 at Cabarete y Encuentro Beach where more than eighty athletes, national and international, will be competing.

“We continue with the firm objective of putting the Dominican Republic on the highest level in these sports,” said event organizer Marcus Böhm. “We return this year with the same enthusiasm as always and this year with the same idea of contributing to the development of Cabarete and its people, above all the young people who see this sport, and our event, as a positive and progressive activity,” he added.

Michael Guzmán, James Otis, Luciano González, Kirsty Jones, Yan Marco Rivera and Manuel Rondón were organizers in previous Master of the Ocean events.

This ninth edition, with attractive prizes and expert exhibitions, will also offer a full agenda of cultural and evening events “that complement the spirit transmitted by each one of the daily competitions,” noted Böhm.

As such, there will be a parallel event: the Indepen Dance Festival that will feature local singers, musicians and DJ. The new bar “Ojo” will host this evening event.

Master of the ocean, complementary information

• Master of the Ocean is the legendary water sports triathlon which, this year, celebrates its 8th anniversary.
• It is a unique event, a competition that, each year, brings together the world’s best athletes, national and international, to compete for the “King of the Waves.” There are over 80 participants this year.
• Only a small part of this group of athletes are in the running for the grand title which is won by accumulating points in each of the competitive events of surfing, windsurfing and kite-boarding.
