Eleomar Puente Presents “Out of Line” at the Lyle O. Reitzel Gallery

Eleomar Puente, well-known Cuban artist and resident of Santo Domingo, DR since 1992, is presenting his most recent one-man show “Out of Line,” at the Lyle O. Reitzel Gallery of Contemporary Art, located in the Piantini Tower.

Following his recent successful series of international exhibitions which included such places as Miami, Panama, Santiago, Chile, and his participation in various Latin American art fairs such as Arteba 08, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Pinta Art Fair 08, in New York and Arteamericas 09, in Miami, the artist will show once again in the DR, after a five-year absence. He will present his powerful collection “Out of line,” which covers his work from 2006-2009 and includes a series of previously unseen work. Those pieces include: “Indomable,” “Déjà vu,” and “Looking for the Enemy” among others, which confirm the ongoing evolution of the artist as a creator of conceptual images.

According to Miami art critic, Alfredo Triff: “There is something unique in the work of this Santiago native Eleomar Puente that points to the kinetic melodrama of form: It touches a nerve in the image either before or after it coagulates into something transcendent. The extension of potential energy, a figure in evolution, surreptitious actions, hermetic symbols in a state of fusion (like the departures in a John Woo film). Tropism art that tends toward the oblique and sharp-edged; caustic, daring humor, nearly unbelievable.”

Eleomar Puente has won important awards and recognition for his work, including the: Acquisition Award, XXI Biennial of Visual Arts at the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo, DR; Honorable Mention at the VI International Painting Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador; Critics Award at the International Drawing Salon at the Museum of Modern Art’s Arawak Foundation in Santo Domingo, DR; the November 30 Salon Award from Santiago de Cuba, among others.

His work is found in the permanent collections of prestigious museums around the world such as: Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA, Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Museum of Modern Art, Santo Domingo, D.R., Credicorp Bank, Panama City, Panama; Center for Universal Art, Santiago de Cuba, Ortiz-Gurdian Art Center, León, Nicaragua.

“Out of line” will be open to the public until August 2, 2009.
