




{"id":7369,"date":"2015-09-28T11:35:32","date_gmt":"2015-09-28T07:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dominicana-online.org\/?p=7369"},"modified":"2015-09-28T11:35:32","modified_gmt":"2015-09-28T07:35:32","slug":"noti5873","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dominicanaonline.org\/en\/noti5873\/","title":{"rendered":"9th Dominican Book Fair in New York Dedicated to Eugenio Garc\u00eda Cuevas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><BR><br \/>\n<TABLE class=texto width=\"90%\" border=0><br \/>\n<TBODY><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD style=\"HEIGHT: 963px\" vAlign=top width=70><IMG class=thinborderfloat1 border=0 alt=\"Fernando Villalona to Reflect on His Life, Music at New York Dominican Get Together\" src=\"\/portal\/noticias\/5873_66.jpg\" width=65><\/TD><br \/>\n<TD style=\"HEIGHT: 963px\" vAlign=top width=7><BR><\/TD><br \/>\n<TD class=texto style=\"HEIGHT: 963px\" vAlign=top align=left><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>9th Dominican Book Fair in New York Dedicated to Eugenio Garc\u00eda Cuevas<\/STRONG> <BR>Nueva York, September 25 2015<\/P><br \/>\n<P><SPAN style=\"FONT-SIZE: 35px; FONT-FAMILY: Georgia,; FONT-WEIGHT: normal; COLOR: chocolate; LETTER-SPACING: -6px; LINE-HEIGHT: 80%\">T<\/SPAN>he 9th Dominican Book Fair in New York begins this Friday, September 25, at 7:00 pm, at the United Palace Grand Theatre, starring Danny Rivera, and as a tribute to Dominican and Mexican folklore, with the Kumba Carey group and the Calpulli Mexican dance company.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>In addition, it will serve as a memorial tribute to Sonia Silvestre and Luis D\u00edaz, with the performances of Ingrit (La Domi) and Jankarlos.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The announcement was made by the Dominican Commissioner of Culture, Carlos S\u00e1nchez, who urged the general public to support the fair as it does every year, by attending more the than 200 events that will take place during the weekend of the fair at the Gregorio Luper\u00f3n School in Manhattan.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The fair is organized by the Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, an agency of the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The Minister of Culture of the Dominican Republic, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Rodr\u00edguez, will attend the 9th Fair, which this year is dedicated to poet, essayist, storyteller, cultural journalist and university professor Eugenio Garc\u00eda Cuevas, who lives in Puerto Rico, for his outstanding career as a writer and cultural journalist, and for his extraordinary contributions to Dominican literature through his literary work.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>S\u00e1nchez thanked professor and writer Juan Villar, Director of the Gregorio Luper\u00f3n school, &#8220;for generously offering the school to host the fair and thus contributing to this great Dominican cultural festival.&#8221;<\/P><br \/>\n<P>With the slogan: &#8220;El libro es un tesoro,&#8221; (The book is a treasure) the fair, which is attended each year by thousands people, will offer US Spanish-speaking communities the opportunity to come into contact with the ample, varied and rich Dominican literature.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>On Saturday, September 26 and on Sunday, September 27, starting at 9 am, the exhibition and sale of books and artistic and cultural activities will open to the public at the Gregorio Luper\u00f3n School, located at 501 West 165th Street in Upper Manhattan. The fair will close on Sunday, September 27, at 8 pm, in the auditorium of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture, located at 541 West 145th Street in Manhattan.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Among the events taking place are the 2nd. &#8216;Luz y Movimiento&#8217; (Light and Movement) Short Film Festival, at the Dominican Cinema Pavilion, which includes short films by Dominican filmmakers, as well as painting and photography exhibitions by several Dominican artists, including Sigfrido Duarte, \u00d3scar Abr\u00e9u,Yolanny Rodr\u00edguez, Zoila Pujols, Anifer Silvestre, Gionny Alonzo, Tony Castillo and Dgilar G\u00f3mez, and a photographic exhibition from the ITCS, with Juan Carlos Fern\u00e1ndez, V\u00edctor De L\u00e1ncer and Maricela Mart\u00ednez.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>In addition, the following works will be released: Juntura de escritura, by the honoree, writer Eugenio Garc\u00eda Cuevas; Juan Pablo Duarte: El Humanista\/The Humanist, the first bilingual book (Spanish and English) that includes the writings of Juan Pablo Duarte, published by Rhina P. Espaillat and Sarah Aponte; Perro no come perro, by Odalis P\u00e9rez; Los nacimientos m\u00faltiples de Juan Bosch and Viaje hacia el Ar\u00faspice, by the National Literature Award winner Mateo Morrison; Seis ensayos en busca de Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a, by Luis O. Brea Franco; El abuelo de Gast\u00f3n en abril de 1965, a novel by the National Literature Award winner Tony Raful; Amor de Mariposas, by Euri Cabral; Mujeres: huellas, mirada y Resistencia, by Virtudes \u00c1lvarez; and, Amor en bicicleta, by the Letras de Ultramar 2015 Award winner, Tom\u00e1s Modesto Gal\u00e1n.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The following books that have been published this year under the Commissioner\u2019s editions label will be released to the public: Los malvados, a storybook by Santiago Campo Guti\u00e9rrez; Juego de asombro, a children&#8217;s book by C\u00e9sar S\u00e1nchez Beras; and Extracto, a book of micro-stories by Kianny Antigua.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>In addition, the Editora Sanctuario\u2019s books published by Isael P\u00e9rez, among which are the works of the former Minister of Culture, writer Jos\u00e9 Rafael Lantigua: the book of poems La Fatiga Invocada, the seven volumes of Espacios y Resonancias, and the 20-year compilation of the Biblioteca supplement, will also be released.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Other works to be presented at the 9th Fair are: El Ruido, by Ram\u00f3n \u00c1lvarez Vargas; Ra\u00edces de la Identidad Dominicana &amp; Identidades de la Poblaci\u00f3n de Origen Jamaiquino en el Caribe Costarricense (Segunda Mitad del Siglo XX), by Reina Rosario; and La insoportable liviandad del ser o un manual para cazar un homo sapiens, by Isabel Gonz\u00e1lez.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>As it is already a tradition, the Dominican Book Fair in New York is the scene where a variety of issues of great importance to the Dominican community are raised and discussed at conferences, lectures, readings, round tables and debates.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>This year, countless conferences wil take place, among which: &#8220;Valores de identidad del pueblo dominicano,&#8221;
