The event will end on June 22nd.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>During the 5 days of the event, the Third Film Festival will showcase over 30 films made by Dominicans.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Armando Guare\u00f1o, Founder and Executive Director of the Festival, welcomed and congratulated all those present, highlighting the support provided by the sponsors of the event. \u201cThe Dominican film industry is experiencing its finest moment\u201d, he said.<BR>\u201cThe directors, actors, and everyone involved in the making of a Dominican film, are working hard in each of their projects, for Dominican films to be internationally recognized; this is the reason why we are having this Festival. Thank you all for being here and for your support\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>It was a great night for the Dominican film industry. The renowned film \u201cTo the South of Innocence\u201d, directed by H\u00e9ctor M. Vald\u00e9z and starring popular Dominicans actors Frank Perozo and Julieta Rodr\u00edguez, received all the honors during the event.<BR>Its director, H\u00e9ctor M. Vald\u00e9z said that he was happy and pleased to have been selected for the opening of the Third Dominican Film Festival.&nbsp; \u201cI am grateful to all the participants and actors in the film. This film has changed my life\u201d. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>The opening ceremony of the event was attended by famous Dominican directors and actors, including; Juan Basanta, Alfonso Rodr\u00edguez, Kiki Mel\u00e9ndez, Manny P\u00e9rez, Juan Fern\u00e1ndez, Cheddy Garc\u00eda, Audri Rijo, among many others.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The most moving moment of the night was when presenters Senny Taveras and Oveous, asked all directors, actors, and artists that were present to come up to the stage where they were paid tribute in recognition for their great contributions to the Dominican film industry.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Finally, Armando Guare\u00f1o showed gratitude for the support of the media and asked all those present to become spokespersons within the community and inform of what is happening with the Dominican film industry and invite the people to come and support the Third Dominican Film Festival.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>It is worth noting that the festival will take place in two locations from June 18-22: the Alumni Auditorium at Columbia University Medical Center, located at 650 West 168 St., corner of Broadway, and the Hall of Fame Theater in the Armory Foundation, located at 216 Fort Washington Avenue (at 168th Street).<\/P><br \/>\n<P>It should also be noted that more than 30 films made by Dominican filmmakers and of other nationalities will be screened, in the interest of telling Dominican stories. The festival will screen feature-length films, short films and documentaries from the Dominican Republic, USA, Puerto Rico, and Spain. There will also be special tributes to artists, panel discussions, and other festivities.<\/P><br \/>\n<P><STRONG>The official program of some of the feature-length films for the DFFNY:<\/STRONG><\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cDespertar\u201d directed by Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Cabral, starring Adri\u00e1n Mas and Loraida Bobadilla; \u201cBiodegradable\u201d directed by Juan Basanta, starring C\u00e9sar \u00c9vora and Cecilia Garc\u00eda; \u201cEl Gallo\u201d directed by Juan Fern\u00e1ndez, starring Juan Fern\u00e1ndez, Lia Chapman, Caperusa E. Ram\u00edrez, and Garibaldy Reyes; \u201cDe Pez en Cuando\u201d directed by Francisco Adolfo Valdez, starring Luis Jos\u00e9 Germ\u00e1n and Camila Santana; \u201cLocas y Atrapadas\u201d by Alfonso Rodr\u00edguez, starring Denise Qui\u00f1ones, Melymel, Sabrina G\u00f3mez, Silvana Arias, Dulcita Lieggi and Carlos Alfredo Fatule.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Also, \u201cNoche de Circo\u201d directed by Alan Nadal Piantini, starring Richard Douglas, Cheddy Garc\u00eda, and Georgina Duluc; \u201cLa Monta\u00f1a\u201d directed by Tabar\u00e9 Blanchard and Iv\u00e1n Herrera; \u201cLotoman 003\u201d directed by Archie L\u00f3pez starring Raymond Pozo, Miguel C\u00e9spedes, Chelsy Garc\u00eda, Fauto Mota, Fefita La Grande, Juli\u00e1n Gil, Fernando Carrillo, and La Materialista; \u201cDuarte, Traici\u00f3n y Gloria\u201d directed by Leo Silverio; \u201cBlanco\u201d directed by Melvin Duran; \u201cQuien Manda\u201d (Who\u2019s the Boss) directed by Ronni Castillo, starring Frank Perozo, Nashla Borgaert, and Cuqu\u00edn Victoria.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>DFFNY is honored to present a Retrospective of Manny P\u00e9rez to celebrate the career of the Dominican actor and producer. P\u00e9rez has performed for over 20 years in both film and television. The evening will open with the premiere of \u201cPonchao\u201d, directed by Josh Crook, followed by the acclaimed \u201cGreencard Warriors\u201d, directed by Miriam Kruishoop. Both films feature our lecturer. DFFNY is also pleased to have a chat with the actor titled \u201cA Conversation with Manny P\u00e9rez\u201d, at the Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center. He will discuss his work as an actor, writer, and producer in a special intimate, deep, face-to-face conversation.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The screening of the documentary <STRONG>\u201cMala Mala\u201d <\/STRONG>is scheduled for the closing on Sunday, June 22nd. The documentary is directed by Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini, born in Puerto Rico to a Dominican mother. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>The festival wants to offer a platform for those in the Dominican film industry. It will allow new and established producers to promote their works to the public, in order to raise awareness of the Seventh Art and to motivate those interested in Dominican culture in the Big Apple.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>Growth and enrichment are the main goals of the festival. DFFNY wants to educate and inspire others because the beauty of film production is a remarkable experience, and these nights will shed light on it.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>DFFNY is organized by Cine Art Entertainment Productions in collaboration with Fundaci\u00f3n Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (FCGD), and the National Directorate of Film (DGCINE).
