International Day of Jazz 2014 – Santo Domingo Will Also Celebrate!!!<\/STRONG> J<\/SPAN> azz en Dominicana, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of the United States of America, and Mes\u00f3n de la Cava, join the International Day of Jazz 2014 celebrations with a concert by the Jazz Big Band of the National Conservatory of Music, on Tuesday, April 29th. The concert will take place in the context of activities at The Galleries @ Las Terrazas del Mes\u00f3n, with the sponsorship of the Dominican National Commission for UNESCO and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. The event will be noted as one of the international celebrations of this great event. <\/P> \u201cThe International Day of Jazz is a way to highlight, support, and promote the unifying power of music through the celebrations and activities of April 30th of each year\u201d, said Herbie Hancock, UNESCO\u2019s Goodwill Ambassador.<\/P> What a better way to mark the occasion than introducing and supporting those who will be the future of our Jazz!!! We are pleased to present the Big Band of the National Conservatory of Music under the baton of Javier Vargas. The 20 members of the band will give a Big Band concert, a style that was extremely popular during the “Swing Era\u201d from the beginning of the 30’s until the end of the 40’s and continues to be relevant to this day. It is composed of 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, and 5 trumpets in its wind section, which is complemented by the rhythms of the drums, percussion, piano, bass, and guitar.
