In her opening remarks, Ms. Ditrén said that trying to strike a balance between ethics and aesthetics is a constant effort in Jorge Pineda’s process of research and production, as his works, reflective and playful, are witnesses and testimonies of an period.

She added: “It reflects a social interest and is humanistic in nature, which has generated numerous works that denounce child abuse -physical and psychological-, as well as ecological, gender, and migration problems. Likewise, among his production we find works that speak of love, obsession, happiness, the banality of postmodernism, as well as of political issues and crossbreeding (mestizaje); among many others issues that he examines critically and reflects on, where he reinvents himself in a broad imaginary that brings him back to the issue of childhood, in his different creative periods”.

The sample consists of sculptures, drawings, and installations that have been presented at biennials, museums, and galleries in the past 15 years, in different cities around the world, where unpublished works have been included.

In the more than 20 exhibited works by the artist, he reflects both playfully and critically, on his personal imaginary. He invites us to interact by immersing ourselves into his creations, either by finishing them with our strokes, raking a Zen garden, chasing a fly, dressing up a girl, or discovering other worlds beneath the earth; in short, he proposes a sensory experience that, through interaction, produces a unique reading that connects aesthetic pleasure with vital reflection.

Visual artist Jorge Pineda has put on a display his works in solo exhibitions in Madrid, Valencia, Gijón, Lima, Santo Domingo, and New York, where in 2012 he presented his individual project “Shadows and other Fairy Tale” at Hunter College East Harlem Art Gallery. The exhibition was curated by Mariluz Hoyos.

His works are part of the collections at MUSAC, DA2, (Museum of Contemporary Art of Salamanca), IVAM (Valencian Institute of Modern Art), MAM (Museum of Modern Art of Santo Domingo), the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection, Casa de las Américas, Museum of Contemporary Art of Osaka, and Centro León, among others.

He has also participated in the Venice Biennial, Cuenca Biennial, Lima Biennial, Havana Biennial, and the Biennial of the End of the World, in the latter with the Quintapata group, which is currently comprised by artists Pascal Meccariello, Raquel Paiewonsky, and Belkis Ramírez.

“After all, tomorrow is another day” also includes lectures and guided tours and will be open to the public until May 3rd, 2014, from Tuesdays to Sundays, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, located on Pedro Henríquez Ureña Ave., Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, in Santo Domingo.

<P style="WIDTH: 500px;
