President Fern\u00e1ndez Congratulates Mexico on its Bicentennial of Independence D<\/SPAN>ominican President Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez, in a message sent to his Mexican counterpart, Felipe Calder\u00f3n, congratulated the people of Mexico on the bicentennial of their independence. \u201cIn the name of the Dominican Republic and in my own name, we express our deep feeling of jubilation on the occasion of the Bicentennial of Independence of our sister Republic of Mexico.\u201d<\/P> \u201cToday we recall with pride the patriotic courage of Miguel Hidalgo, who, in 1801, led Mexican men and women to rise up with praiseworthy valor and dignified endurance to fight with iron conviction for their inalienable right to freedom in their homeland,\u201d<\/P> The Dominican government honors the labor of the illustrious men and women who fought for the independence of the Mexican nation and especially the heroic actions of such independence fighters as Ignacio Allende, Juan Aldama, Josefa Ortiz de Dom\u00ednguez, Mariano Jim\u00e9nez, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Torres, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez de Hermosillo, Ignacio L\u00f3pez Ray\u00f3n, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Mercado, Francisco Osomo and Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Morelos y Pav\u00f3n.<\/P> \u201cToday we recall with pride the patriotic courage of Miguel Hidalgo, who, in 1801, led Mexican men and women to rise up with praiseworthy valor and dignified endurance to fight with iron conviction for their inalienable right to freedom in their homeland,\u201d said President Fern\u00e1ndez in reference to the most important person in Mexico\u2019s struggle for independence, according to the Presidential Office of Information, Press and Publicity. <\/P> Fern\u00e1ndez said these heroes, along with other well-known patriots and thousands of citizens, sacrificed safety and at times their lives to reach their longed-for goal of sovereignty and hope for a promising future of justice, development and peace for their thriving nation. <\/P> \u201cIt is just and right, to vigorously congratulate the brave people of Mexico for working so hard and enthusiastically in the building of your own destiny,\u201d President Fern\u00e1ndez said in a document he sent to Mexican President Felipe Calder\u00f3n.
