The Presidential decree states that the earthquake in Haiti has caused the loss of thousands of lives in Port-au-Prince, the total destruction of numerous government buildings and hundreds of commercial and private homes.
It also expresses profound sympathy on the part of the Dominican people in the face of this tragedy and considers it the moral obligation to show solidarity to this neighboring country and its people. <\/P>
