Bayahíbe, an ecotourism enclave in the Eastern region, will begin to feel some of the benefits of the various actions being taken to catapult the area’s offerings as well as present opportunities of progress for its residents.

In addition, in the park there is “new and varied wealth from our Taina culture where a visitor can find a total series of caves with cave writings and hieroglyphs,”

Among the priorities under consideration for the area is the application of the Territorial Ordering Plan – worked out by the Department of Plans and Projects (DPP) under the Ministry of Tourism, the regeneration of beaches and the widening of the small dock to make way for the landing of boats transporting tourists to the Island of Saona.

Manuel Nolasco, Deputy Tourism Minister of Yuma-Bayahíbe said the Territorial Ordering Plan will help the “growth of tourism to be carried out with quality control and for the benefit of all society such as has been the wish of the Tourism Minister,” he said referring to Francisco Javier García.

“Moreover, the major tourism excursion activity in the country takes place in Bayahíbe. This implies a series of cruise ships and companies dedicated to this activity which makes the building of a landing all the more important; it will keep the activities organized and reduce the pollution of our very beautiful beach.”

Between 2,000 and 3,000 tourists, said Nolasco, arrive everyday to the Island of Saona. He stressed that the new boat landing will lend an entirely new dimension to this eco-tourism and cultural destination.

He stressed that Bayahibe, Dominicus, Yuma and San Rafael del Yuma make up “an extremely important tourism enclave where highly relevant natural resources are concentrated, such as the National Park of the East and Saona, the largest island in the country.”

In addition, in the park there is “new and varied wealth from our Taina culture where a visitor can find a total series of caves with cave writings and hieroglyphs,” and vast cultural treasures.

“This connection between tourism and environment makes this enclave an extraordinary place,” says Nolasco about Bayahíbe. The area currently has 3,800 hotel rooms divided among five large hotels but with lots of room to grow.
