About Art Basel Miami Beach

Initiated in Switzerland by art collector and patron Ernst Beyeler in 1968, Art Basel is celebrating its 40th year in Europe. But the reach of this event is not limited to Basel. Indeed in 2001, the event crossed the ocean and opened its doors along the beaches of Miami.

Today Art Basel Miami Beach has become the major artistic event among prestigious artists, collectors, and enthusiasts connected to the art world from the United States and, by extension, the entire American continent. Its success and popularity has generated the birth of Design Miami Basel and other smaller designer fairs. All of this has turned Miami into the artistic capital of the hemisphere, thanks to a Swiss initiative.
