The Guest of Honor this year will be the Association of Caribbean States.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The books being published this year for the Book Fair belong to the publishing unit of the Culture Ministry: National Publishing House, Ferilibro Publishing and Secretary of State for Culture Publishing. In addition, there is Angeles de Fierro, a non-profit publisher established in San Francisco de Macor\u00eds and financed by the Culture Ministry to publish writers in the northern part of the country and Rumbo Sur, a new publishing label created to publish and distribute the work of writers in the southern region.<br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Ferilibro Publishing <\/STRONG><br \/>\n<P>Emilio Rodr\u00edguez Demorizi, to whom this year\u2019s book fair is dedicated, is the protagonist of one of these books. Historian H\u00e9ctor Luis Mart\u00ednez has prepared two selected anthologies titled \u201cEmilio Rodr\u00edguez Demorizi: History, Art and Culture.\u201d One is printed as a traditional deluxe hardcover and one is in paperback. Mart\u00ednez selected the text and wrote the introduction to the book.<br \/>\n<P><STRONG>\u201cThe History of the Caribbean\u201d<\/STRONG> by Frank Moya Pons, considered the key book at the event in that the Association of Caribbean States is to be the Guest of Honor at the fair.<br \/>\n<P>The remaining book titles to be presented at this cultural festival are the following:<br \/>\n<P>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cColloquiums 2008<\/STRONG> The traditional collection of speeches that were given at the 2007 Book Fair<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cAmoricidio<\/STRONG>,\u201d by Rey And\u00fajar. Winner of the International Short Story from a Young Person Award from the 2007 Book Fair <BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cThe Night Will Hurt Us,\u201d<\/STRONG> by Romina Bayo. International Youth Poetry Prize from the 2007 Book Fair.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cBet\u00fan Melancholy\u201d<\/STRONG> by Ren\u00e9 Rodr\u00edguez Soriano. Complete Collection of Short Stories. In previous years, the complete short stories of Pedro Peix and Iv\u00e1n Garc\u00eda Guerra were published.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>Tenths Awarded by Radio Santa Mar\u00eda.<\/STRONG> An homage to authors from various areas around the country and to the traditional contest sponsored by the popular Catholic Radio Station in La Vega.<br \/>\n<P><STRONG>National Publishing House<\/STRONG><br \/>\n<P>The National Publishing House is presenting two important titles: <STRONG>\u201cAnthology,\u201d<\/STRONG> by Cayo Claudio Espinal, a large selection of the poetic works of this important writer. And <STRONG>\u201cTo the Shadow of the Flamboyan Tree,\u201d<\/STRONG> by Dinorah Coronado, winning book of the Letters Prize of Ultramar 2007, held under the auspices of the Secretary of State for Culture through the Dominican Commission of Culture in the United States for Dominican writers living in the Diaspora.<br \/>\n<P><STRONG>SEC Publishers<\/STRONG><br \/>\n<P>This Ministry of Culture Publisher is presenting these three books at the Book Fair:<br \/>\n<P>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cThe Profound Link,\u201d<\/STRONG> is a series of essays by Bruno Rosario Candelier, winner of the National Prize for Literature 2008.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cThis is Santo Domingo. The City in Poetry\u201d,<\/STRONG> by Soledad \u00c1lvarez, an important compendium of texts about the city of Santo Domingo.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cMemories of Lieutenant Veneno\u201d,<\/STRONG> by Abelardo Vicioso, a previously unpublished novel by the late poet and member of the Generation of \u201848, to whom the Book Fair will dedicate one of its days.<br \/>\n<P><STRONG>\u00c1ngeles de Fierro<\/STRONG><br \/>\n<P>The \u00c1ngeles de Fierro Publisher, with financing from the Culture Ministry, is publishing the following titles:<br \/>\n<P>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cDance of Suicide\u201d,<\/STRONG> by Pedro Ovalles.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cReflection of the Routes\u201d,<\/STRONG> by Albani Aquino.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cBy the Light of the Poets\u201d<\/STRONG>, by Ernesto Vantroy.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cBlack Stockings\u201d<\/STRONG>, by Patricia Minaya.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cSarat\u2019s Decision and Other Stories\u201d<\/STRONG>, by Santiago N\u00fa\u00f1ez.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cUrban Gardens\u201d,<\/STRONG> by Arlyn D. Abreu and Carlos N\u00fa\u00f1ez.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cTestimony\u201d<\/STRONG>, by Arelis Albino.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cJando: The New York Man\/ Novel Film\u201d<\/STRONG>, by Francisco Nolasco Cordero, a novel published posthumously by the well-known French-Macorisan writer who died last year.<br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Rumbo Sur <\/STRONG><br \/>\n<P>This new Publisher, supported by the Ministry of Culture will present 12 volumes published last year with writers exclusively from the southern region of the country, many of whom are seeing their work in print for the first time. They include the following:<br \/>\n<P>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cFor Our Own Good\u201d<\/STRONG>, stories by Orlando Alc\u00e1ntara (San Crist\u00f3bal).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cContraolvido\u201d<\/STRONG>, an anthology of stories by Mercedes Castillo (San Crist\u00f3bal).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cTr\u00edptico\u201d<\/STRONG>, short narratives by Ismael D\u00edaz Melo (Ban\u00ed).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cHuge Shadow\u201d<\/STRONG>, stories by Luis Terko Vargas (Azua).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cTripage\u201d<\/STRONG>, an anthology of poets from Azua by Rannel B\u00e1ez (Azua).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cGray Matter\u201d<\/STRONG>, poems by Franklin Mej\u00eda (San Jos\u00e9 de Ocoa).<br \/>\n<P>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cAlong the Southern Roads\u201d<\/STRONG>, essays about towns in the South by Ariel Acosta Cuevas (Neyba).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cBetween Stories and Poems, Two Generations\u201d<\/STRONG>, an anthology by Oscar Acosta (Neyba).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cPoems in Microsurco\u201d<\/STRONG>, an anthology by Rafael E. Caama\u00f1o (El\u00edas Pi\u00f1a).<BR>\u2022 \u201c<STRONG>Miss Victoria\u201d<\/STRONG>, stories by Casandro Fortuna (San Juan de la Maguana).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cConfidences\u201d<\/STRONG>, poems by H\u00e9ctor Vinicio Solano (San Juan de la Maguana).<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cIn the Prison of Time\u201d<\/STRONG>, poems by Sobiesky de Le\u00f3n (San Juan de la Maguana).<br \/>\n<P><STRONG>Joint Publishing<\/STRONG><br \/>\n<P>In addition to these books, there have been other joint publishing efforts with writers and international foundations.<br \/>\n<P>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cThe Great Caribbean. Just One Sea and 12 Nobel Prizes\u201d<\/STRONG>, a selection of texts edited in Spanish and French, especially for the Book Fair, and published by Ferilibro and the Association of Caribbean States. <BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cThe Machine of the Look\u201d<\/STRONG>, by Susana Vellegia, winner of the Essay on Film in Latin America and the Caribbean. Published by the Ministry of Culture Publishing in conjunction with the Foundation for New Latin American Film presided over by Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez.<BR>\u2022<STRONG> \u201cDienteleche 2008\u201d<\/STRONG>, a traditional selection of children\u2019s stories by Dominican and Cuban authors published since 1997 in conjunction with Ferilibro Publishing and the Writers Union of Cuba (UNEAC). This year there will be a collection of children\u2019s books by writers from Puerto Rico, making this an important area for the promotion of children\u2019s literature from the Upper Antilles. The Dominican authors selected this year are Dulce Elvira de los Santos and Elizabeth Balaguer.<BR>\u2022 <STRONG>\u201cThe Golden Horn. Domincian Tales of Infidelity\u201d<\/STRONG>, by Eulogio Javier, published by Ferilibro along with Letra Negra Publishers of Guatemala.<br \/>\n<P>These 37 books will be presented on April 17 in the Ram\u00f3n Oviedo Art Hall of the Ministry of Culture in an act scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m. After that, they will be presented individually within the Book Fair program.<br \/>\n<P>The International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2008, in its eleventh edition, will be dedicated this year to Emilio Rodr\u00edguez Demorizi, the Dominican Republic\u2019s most prolific of historians. The Guest of Honor this year will be the Association of Caribbean States. The central themes of this year\u2019s Book Fair will be the Caribbean, History, Love Poetry and the Promotion of Reading.<br \/>\n<P>The Book Fair, as in the past, will be held in the Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza beginning on Monday April 21 to Sunday May 4.
