Prizes are awarded yearly and each winner receives a certificate and $10,000.<br \/>\n<P><\/P><br \/>\n<DIV style=\"MARGIN-BOTTOM: 15px; FONT-SIZE: 16px; FONT-FAMILY: Arial, Helvetica, Georgia; WIDTH: 210px; FLOAT: right; COLOR: #339966; PADDING-BOTTOM: 10px; TEXT-ALIGN: right; MARGIN-LEFT: 10px; MARGIN-TOP: 1px; LINE-HEIGHT: 24px\"><SPAN class=quote style=\"COLOR: blue\">&#8220;Junot&#8217;s recognition is a matter of pride for all in this country and especially for Dominican Americans, since he is the first Dominican to ever receive this prestigious honor.&#8221;<\/SPAN><\/DIV>&#8220;Junot&#8217;s recognition is a matter of pride for all in this country and especially for Dominican Americans, since he is the first Dominican to ever receive this prestigious honor.&#8221; said Victor Capellan National President of the DANR. &#8220;We congratulate him for demonstrating the contributions of Dominicans and immigrants to this country.&#8221;<br \/>\n<P>Junot is the first Dominican, and only the second latino ever to receive this honor. Before him, Oscar Hijuelos, a Cuban American won the Pulitzer in 1990 with the novel &#8220;The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love.&#8221;<br \/>\n<P>Diaz was born in Villa Juana, a barrio in Domingo, Dominican Republic, and raised there and in New Jersey. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and received an MFA from Cornell University.
