The event will be moderated by Cuban journalist, writer and resident of Santo Domingo, Luis Beiro Álvarez, cultural editor of the Listín Newspaper.

Literature written by Dominicans on this side of the ocean is a reality that for a long time now cannot be avoided when one is referring to the literature of the Dominican Republic. Names such as Julia Álvarez, Junot Díaz and Nelly Rosario have managed to capture a solid readership in the English language market. Something no less inspiring is happening in the Spanish-speaking world. A quick bird’s eye view of the many book titles from the electronic media will reveal such names as Miguel Aníbal Perdomo, Ángel Garrido, René Rodríguez Soriano, Guillermo Piña-Contreras and Miguel Ángel Fornerín, among others who, every year, have published some of the most important and prize-winning literature in the Dominican Republic. Confirmation that the Dominican traveler has been making literary inroads, while in exile, for a long time comes in the form of work by past writing masters such as Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Tomás Hernández Franco, Ricardo Pérez Alfonseca and Ángel Rafael Lamarche, who have built bridges that unite us all and keep us from forgetting and from being forgotten.

Tower Theatre
1508 SW 8th St. Miami, FL 33135
(305) 642-1264
Monday February 25, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

For more information: http://www.dominicanweek.org/index1.htm

Date of Publication: February 20, 2008

Five of the Most Important Literary Voices of Ultramar to Lecture, Read and Meet for Cultural Heritage WeekTo mark the activities being held to celebrate Dominican-American Cultural Heritage Week , on Thursday February 25, will be the first encounter of the New Dominican Narrative of Ultramar featuring Rey Emmanuel Andujar, Rubén Sánchez Feliz, Minelys Sánchez, … Continue reading “Five of the Most Important Literary Voices of Ultramar to Lecture, Read and Meet for Cultural Heritage Week”

[5

post-2014","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-noticias
