The Ashton School of Santo Domingo was recognized as one of the candidates as a model school for the Latin American implementation Dual Program or Double Immersion on the secondary school level, for the current school year 2007-2008.
The recognition took place at the Annual Advanced-Ed (SACS: Southern Association of Colleges and School) in Orlando, Florida.
Mark Elgart, president and CEO as well as Rob Leveillee, vice-president of International Services of the organization both expressed their interest in the development of this new program, which is unique in the Dominican Republic and a pioneer among these types of schools in all of Latin America.
\u201cThe system consists of educating the students in their mother tongue, Spanish, as well as in English, now regarded as an international language. This not only preserves the students\u2019 own national values but also prepares them to get accepted to any university in the United States,\u201d according to a press release.
According to the standards of the Ashton School, the Double Immersion System serves to prepare students to be competent in both languages, in all academic areas. \u201cWe are proud of this recognition because it stems from the results obtained through the implementation of the Dual System under the norms of the Advan-ED,\u201d added the communiqu\u00e9 from the directors of Ashton School.
The Ashton School uses the Montessori Method to educate students in the preschool.
