




{"id":1913,"date":"2007-12-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-13T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dominicana-online.org\/?p=1913"},"modified":"2007-12-14T00:43:05","modified_gmt":"2007-12-13T20:43:05","slug":"noti565","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dominicanaonline.org\/en\/noti565\/","title":{"rendered":"OPTIC Signs Software Use Agreement With Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><BR><br \/>\n<TABLE class=texto width=\"90%\" border=0><br \/>\n<TBODY><br \/>\n<TR><br \/>\n<TD vAlign=top width=70><IMG class=thinborderfloat1 border=0 alt=optic_convenio src=\"\/Portal\/noticias\/optic_convenio_65.jpg\" width=65><\/TD><br \/>\n<TD vAlign=top width=7><BR><\/TD><br \/>\n<TD class=texto vAlign=top><STRONG><SPAN lang=EN-US>OPTIC Signs Software Use Agreement With Government<\/SPAN><\/STRONG><BR><BR><SPAN lang=EN-US>The President\u2019s Office of Technology and Communication (OPTIC) signed an agreement this week with <\/SPAN><SPAN lang=EN-US>Business Software Alliance (BSA) to normalize the use of its software in Public Administration. <SPAN lang=EN-US>&nbsp;<\/SPAN><BR><BR><SPAN lang=EN-US>Domingo Tav\u00e1rez, director of OPTIC, said the collaboration agreement is very important for the government and the country as the Dominican Republic is in the process of opening its doors to free trade, according to a press release from the President\u2019s Office of Information, Press and Publicity. <SPAN lang=EN-US>&nbsp;<\/SPAN><BR><BR><SPAN lang=EN-US>Mr. Tav\u00e1rez said that this process of opening, especially in view of DR-CAFTA recently going into effect, obliges governments to regularize the use of software in its public administration offices. He added that this regularization implies that there can be no use of unlicensed software in any of the government offices. <SPAN lang=EN-US>&nbsp;<\/SPAN><BR><BR><SPAN lang=EN-US>Tav\u00e1rez pointed out that this activity is covered under decree 615-07, declared by the Executive Branch and oriented to all public administration offices indicating their obligation to comply with all statutes of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and the Dominican Republic. <SPAN lang=EN-US>&nbsp;<\/SPAN><BR><BR><SPAN lang=EN-US>Roger Correa, representative of BSA, said the agreement is high level and of utmost importance and that it will serve as a positive example in the Dominican Republic as well as the rest of the Latin American region.
