With the objective of democratizing access to knowledge, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundaci\u00f3n Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) have created a Virtual Library. The Library, a component of Portal Dominicanaonline.org, provides the global community access to a wide repertoire of Dominican literature in Spanish. <\/P>
\n
The initiative seeks to foster intellectual growth and promote appreciation of the Dominican culture. In addition to providing equal access to library materials, the Virtual Library\u2019s digitalized volumes allow for numerous users to read the same book, article or document simultaneously. Restriction free access to all literary works makes the Virtual Library an invaluable teaching tool for classroom instructors.<\/P>

Digital volumes may be read and printed at no cost to the reader. All documents form part of the public domain.<\/P>
\n
The site\u2019s user friendly \u201csearch\u201d feature allows users to search for materials by subject (action, science fiction, drama, children\u2019s literature, social studies, education, geography, history, politics, religion, other) or by genre (biography, short story, essay, poetry, novel, report, document, other). The \u201cadvanced search\u201d option allows users to also search for texts by title, ISBN, author, editor, year or content.<\/P>
\n
The portal section \u201cRecommendations\u201d provides readers access to literary critiques of the Library\u2019s volumes. Moreover, the section \u201cReader Favorites\u201d features a list of the texts most frequently read by portal users.<\/P>

Books currently being premiered on Dominicanaonline.org include: Cosas A\u00f1ejas <\/EM>(Cesar Nicol\u00e1s Penson), Over <\/EM>(Ram\u00f3n Marrero Aristry), El Derrumbe <\/EM>(Fredrico Garc\u00eda Godoy), P\u00e1ginas Olvidadas<\/EM> (Gast\u00f3n F. Deligne), D\u00e9cimas In\u00e9ditas<\/EM> (Juan Antonio Alix), La Fantasma de Hig\u00fcey <\/EM>(Francisco Javier Angulo Guridi), Guanuma <\/EM>(Frederico Garc\u00eda Godoy), Enriquillo <\/EM>(Manuel de Jes\u00fas Galv\u00e1n), and Montero <\/EM>(Pedro Francisco Bon\u00f3).
