Santo Domingo, February 12, 2020 \u2013 During a recent press conference held at the National Theater, the producer, director and actors announced the upcoming play \u201cCambumbo,\u201d based on the life story of one of the Dominican Republic\u2019s most colorful musicians and theater personality: Tony Echavarr\u00eda. <\/p>\n
Produced by Ra\u00fal M\u00e9ndez and co-produced by Lul\u00fa Ceballos, in what is her first theater production, and directed by Ram\u00f3n Santana, the play is based on the life of \u201cCambumbo.\u201d The play was written by Franklin Soto, who is also the play\u2019s lead star, and adapted to the stage by Ram\u00f3n Santana.

\nSoto explained during the press conference that the play honors this Dominican actor, known in the country for his vaudeville-like performances in the 1980s.<\/p>\n
A moving moment for actor Franklin Soto was when he spoke of the untimely death of \u201cCambumbo.\u201d The anecdotes regarding the life of Cambumbo soon followed when Dominican journalists and art critics Napole\u00f3n Beras and Joseph C\u00e1ceres told some interesting stories about the life and times of \u201cCambumbo.\u201d<\/p>\n
The innovative play will incorporate videos, interviews with friends and colleagues who knew and worked with Tony Echavarr\u00eda.<\/p>\n
The play is scheduled to open on February 21 at the Juan Lockward Bar, in Santo Domingo\u2019s National Theater. The play is sponsored by Caf\u00e9 de Toi (La Resistencia), La Zarina, Restaurante Il Cappuccino and Parada 77.\u2028
