Santo Domingo, July 8, 2019 \u2013 The General Film Directorate (DGCINE) formally announced the opening of the 8th Annual Public Film Contest sponsored by the Promotion of the Film Industry (FONPROCINE).
\nFONPROCINE was founded through Law No. 108-10, and its goal is to encourage and strengthen the Dominican Republic\u2019s film industry. Participants may submit their entries until August 2, 2019, at 5:00 p.m.
\nThe contest hopes to encourage and support Dominicans interested in developing the country\u2019s film industry, as well as film and audiovisual productions. Following the guidelines established by Article 69 of Law 108-10, contained in Decree No. 370-11, the Inter-Sectorial Council for the Promotion of Film Activities (CIPAC), through DGCINE, is organizing the 8th annual FONPROCINE contest. All those interested in participating must meet the following criteria:
\n1.\tFeature film fiction script written by Dominicans.
\n2.\tDevelopment by Dominicans of a fiction feature film, documentary and animation.
\n3.\tProduction of short film by Dominicans.
\n4.\tProduction of feature documentary by Dominican nationals.
\n5.\tProduction of fiction feature film and animation by Dominicans.

\nDR FONPROCINE WIP
\nDGCINE\u2019s new initiative DR FONPROCINE WIP (Work in Progress) is based on a script that is currently in the post-production phase. The winning entry will be selected and will be included as part of the Dominican delegation that will participate in the March\u00e9 du Film of the Cannes Film Festival. <\/p>\n
During the recently held 72nd Annual Cannes Film Festival, the documentary \u201cThat is Why I Come to the River (non-official translation), produced by Fernando Blanco, participated in the event as the FONPROCINE 2015 winner.<\/p>\n
With this new initiative FONPROCINE hopes to motivate young Dominican film talent in the various contest categories. The winners will receive an economic incentive to finish their film project, but will also be evaluated to opt for the opportunity to participate in international and very prestigious film festivals, such as the March\u00e9 du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, highlighted Yvette Marichal, Director General of the General Film Directorate (DGCINE).
