Santo Domingo, July 4, 2019 \u2013 The Ministry of Culture recently announced the winners of the Annual Literature Awards 2019, in its six categories. Each of the winning authors will receive a prize of US$5,000 and a Certificate of Honor. <\/p>\n
The awards, issued through the Ministry\u2019s Literary Department, strengthen its believe in the importance of promoting literature in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n
The announcements were made in the Aida Cartagena Portalat\u00edn Hall of the Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a National Library. The names of the winners were read by Ms. Ruth Herrera, General Director of Books and Reading of the Ministry. Other officials present were Cesar Zapata, the Ministry\u2019s Director of Literary Management and Le\u00f3n F\u00e9lix Batista, Director of the Poetry Festival. Also present was Enrique Garc\u00eda, director of the National Publishing Office. <\/p>\n
The opening remarks were delivered by writer C\u00e9sar Zapata who, speaking for the Minister of Culture Eduardo Selman, spoke of the importance of literary production.<\/p>\n
THE WINNERS<\/p>\n
The Annual Poetry Award Salom\u00e9 Ure\u00f1a de Henr\u00edquez was issued to C\u00e9sar S\u00e1nchez Beras, for his book: Cartograf\u00eda del desamparo.<\/p>\n
The winner of the Short Story Category Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n L\u00f3pez was issued to Ubaldo Rosario, for his story titled Jaque Mate.<\/p>\n
The Annual Novel Award Manuel de Jes\u00fas Galv\u00e1n was written by Jos\u00e9 Acosta, for his production El lodo y la nieve. <\/p>\n
The Annual Theater Award Crist\u00f3bal de Llerena was issued to Richardson D\u00edaz, for his play titled El mot\u00edn de la paloma.<\/p>\n
In the Essay category Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a, the award was issued to plastic artist Dustin Mu\u00f1oz, for his work titled La contemplaci\u00f3n est\u00e9tica de lo feo.<\/p>\n
The Annual Children and Youth Literature Award Aurora Tav\u00e1rez Belliard was issued to writer Farah Harrar for her book Los puentes del coraz\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
Director Ruth Herrera delivered closing remarks, where she valued the content of the winning literary pieces. <\/p>\n
The jurors were, in the Poetry Category: Jos\u00e9 Enrique Delmonte, Sarria Rodr\u00edguez and Ram\u00f3n Peralta; in Short Stories, by: Aquiles Juli\u00e1n, Fernando Berroa and M\u00f3nica Boronteri; in the Novel category: Rafael Castillo, Luis Arambilet and Le\u00f3n David; in Essays: Adriano Miguel Tejada, Ofelia Berrido and Celsa Albert; in Theater: Haffe Serrulle, Iv\u00e1n Garc\u00eda Guerra and Bienvenida Polanco. In Children\u2019s Literature: Lucia Amelia Cabral, Elizabeth Ovalle and Dulce Elvira de los Santos.<\/p>\n
The Annual Literature Award was created through Decree No. 111-05, dated March 23, 2005. The Ministry of Culture annually calls on local writers to participate in the event.<\/p>\n
