Santo Domingo, September 18, 2018 \u2013 The Global Institute of Higher Studies in the Social Sciences (IGLOBAL), through its Department of Scientific Research and Publications, announced the upcoming \u201cIV Caribbean Trans-Discipline Congress on Scientific, Epistemological and Emerging Knowledge,\u201d to be held October 3-5 at the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode), the National Library Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a, and other local universities that are co-sponsoring the event.<\/p>\n
Congress organizers announced that during the event Dr. Marcio Veloz Maggiolo – Dominican writer, archaeologist, anthropologist and winner of the National Literature Award (1996) \u2013 will receive a special Honorary Recognition Award for his continued contributions to the social sciences and the humanities.<\/p>\n
During the event Dr. Veloz Maggiolo will deliver a keynote speech on October 3, at 7:00 p.m., at the National Library Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a. Distinguished Dominican contemporary and folkloric dancers will provide a cultural segment during the special award ceremony. <\/p>\n
In total, some 14 universities, research centers and professional associations are scheduled to participate in the Congress. The event program highlights three keynote speeches, more than 150 national and international experts who will participate in 50 panels, seminars, workshops, book launching ceremonies \u2013 including scientific journals \u2013 and cultural activities.<\/p>\n
The information on the upcoming event was provided during a press conference at FUNGLODE headquarters by academics Pedro Ortega, director of the Department of Scientific Research and IGLOBAL Publications and Coordinator General of the Congress, and Frank D\u2019oleo, Research Vice rector of APEC University. <\/p>\n
The Congress is being held thanks to the efforts and support provided by the Inter-University Consultative Council, consisting of the following institutions: IGLOBAL; Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a University (UNPHU); Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM); APEC University; Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD); Universidad Abierta Para Adultos (UAPA); Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de Santo Domingo (UCSD); Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE) and the Universidad Tecnol\u00f3gica del Cibao Oriental (UTECO). <\/p>\n
The main goals of the 2012, 2014 and 2016 Trans-Discipline Congresses of the Caribbean were to present the most recent scientific research being carried out in the region. Also, to strengthen the production of knowledge and its impact on the region\u2019s social reality, as well as examine and discuss the academic experiences faced by individual and group researchers.<\/p>\n
The Congress will report on the cooperation taking place between regional academic centers, as well as with the Latin American Sociological Association (ALAS) and the French-sponsored project PREFALC Caribe. <\/p>\n
Congress organizers have also expressed an interest in creating a research fund, a future project that hopes to bring together all participating institutions.<\/p>\n
On October 4, at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Patrice Vermeren, Professor Emeritus of Paris University 8, will deliver a keynote speech. And, the event will close on October 5, at 7:00 p.m. with remarks delivered by Dr. Leopoldo Artiles, UASD and IGLOBAL professor.<\/p>\n
The closing event will include a cocktail and a jazz concert.<\/p>\n
