Santo Domingo, July 26, 2018 \u2013 <\/strong>The Dominican School of Popular and Folkloric Rhythms (Escuela Dominicana de Ritmos Folkl\u00f3ricos y Populares – EdoRitmos<\/em>), will begin its summer course for all those interested in learning how to dance merengue, salsa, bachata and son<\/em>.\u00a0 The courses are scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 5, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. or from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The course will run for six Sundays, skipping Sunday, August 19, because it is a long weekend in the D.R.<\/p>\n

The school\u2019s director, Xiomarita P\u00e9rez, will use the teaching method she has used in the school for the past 20 years.\u00a0 The method has been more than successful since\u00a0 participants, when they finish the dance course, come out dancing and performing specific moves to each dance style.<\/p>\n

According to Xiomarita:\u00a0 \u201cEach person develops his or her own style and they can choose the moves they want to use on the dance floor, and they can even teach their friends.\u00a0 With this method, the women do not participate in all the moves but they are taught to follow their partner.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also explained that \u201c\u2026in our school we teach our students to control the dance floor, so that they are not bumping into other couples. \u00a0We teach them to mark their own territory\u2026\u201d.<\/p>\n
