Dominican film director Waddy J\u00e1quez, and cast members of \u201cLa Barber\u00eda,” will participate in a special feature presentation of the film in the U.S. <\/em><\/p>\n

Santo Domingo, July 17, 2018 \u2013 <\/strong>Film director Waddy J\u00e1quez will feature his first film \u201cLa Barber\u00eda\u201d [The Barber Shop] in Lincoln Center of the city of New York next July 25th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Key invitees will include former Dominican President and current president of FUNGLODE\/GFDD, Dr. Leonel Fern\u00e1ndez, as well as Dominican producers Rafael El\u00edas Mu\u00f1oz and Juan Basanta; director Waddy J\u00e1quez; actor H\u00e9ctor An\u00edbal; the director of the General Film Directorate of the D.R., Yvette Marichal; and the director of the Dominican Global Film Festival, Omar de la Cruz.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa Barber\u00eda\u201d tells the story of Benny, who has spent years managing his family\u2019s small barber shop in Washington Heights.\u00a0 He works with his Uncle Cheo, but the times are changing and money is scarce.<\/p>\n

The neighborhood is riddled with closed shops and the barber shop could be the next store to close, although the immigrants in the area consider the place a sanctuary that represents their traditions and culture in that particular block. \u00a0After putting the building up for sale, Benny has to face the demands and objections of the surrounding Dominican community.<\/p>\n

The film is directed by Waddy J\u00e1quezm, and produced by Rafael El\u00edas Mu\u00f1oz and Juan Basanta. \u00a0Cast members include H\u00e9ctor An\u00edbal, Rossmery Almonte (Boquita), Georgina Duluc, Modesto Lac\u00e9n, Miguel Bucarelly, Sandy Hern\u00e1ndez, Iv\u00e1n Camilo, Adalgisa Pantale\u00f3n, Hony Estrella, Vicente Santos, Josu\u00e9 Guerrero and Freddy Beras-Goico.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was overwhelmed, right from\u00a0 the moment I received the news. \u00a0To see my first film featured in a special presentation, and in Lincoln Center, is a critical challenge\u00a0 for me.\u00a0 I am thrilled with the news, even though I am currently grief-stricken\u00a0 over the loss of my dear sister Daunia. I dedicate this event to you, my friend and engine behind my career,\u201d explained Waddy J\u00e1quez.<\/p>\n

The film showing is organized by the Dominican Global Film Festival (FCGD) \u2013 an initiative of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE) and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) – jointly with the Palacio del Cine<\/em>, the General Film Directorate (DGCINE), Lantica Media, Radio Cadena Comercial, SBS and Duende Film.<\/p>\n

The event is part of the Dominican Film Festival program, headed by Armando Guare\u00f1o.<\/p>\n
