{"id":10780,"date":"2018-06-26T02:43:10","date_gmt":"2018-06-26T02:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dominicanaonline.org\/?p=10780"},"modified":"2018-06-28T03:01:27","modified_gmt":"2018-06-28T03:01:27","slug":"english-version-cultura-anuncia-ganadores-de-los-premios-anuales-de-literatura-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dominicanaonline.org\/en\/english-version-cultura-anuncia-ganadores-de-los-premios-anuales-de-literatura-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministry of Culture Announces Winners of  Annual Literature Awards 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Santo Domingo, June 26, 2018 \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0The Ministry of Culture, through the Directorate of Books and Reading, revealed the names of the winners of the Annual Literature Awards during a ceremony held at the Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a National Library.<\/p>\n<p>Through this literary contest, the Ministry of Culture promotes literature and its importance in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2018 awards, Fray Jit Manuel de la Cruz received the Salom\u00e9 Ure\u00f1a de Henr\u00edquez National Poetry Award for his book\u00a0<strong>\u201cEn la voz del silencio\u201d (In the Voice of Silence, non-official translation).<\/strong>\u00a0 The members of the jury &#8211; Rannel B\u00e1ez, Juan Carlos Mieses and Jes\u00fas Losada \u2013 made the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the Children and Youth Literature Award was issued to Luis R. Santos, for his book <strong>\u201cS\u00edndrome del iPhone.\u201d <\/strong>\u00a0In this category, the jury was composed by Luc\u00eda Amelia Cabral, Elizabeth Balaguer and Rafael Peralta Romero.<\/p>\n<p>Altagracia Pou, Fernando Cabrera and Olivier Batista Lemaire,\u00a0the jurors of the Essay Award Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a, unanimously chose the book <strong>\u201cLa po\u00e9tica del trujillismo\u201d (Poetry in the Trujillo Era, non-official translation),<\/strong>\u00a0written by M<strong>e<\/strong>dar Serreta.<\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n L\u00f3pez received the National Short Story Award, while the Manuel de Jes\u00fas Galv\u00e1n Novel Award was declared deserted because none of the entries met the necessary criteria demanded by the contest guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>The Crist\u00f3bal de Llerena Theater Award was also declared void.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the Short Story Award were Emilia Pereyra, Rodolfo B\u00e1ez and Ren\u00e9 Rodr\u00edguez Soriano, while the members of the Novel Award jury\u00a0 \u00a0were \u00c1ngel Luis Arambilet, Rafael Castillo Alba and Manuel Mora Serrano.<\/p>\n<p>The event was headed by the Director of Books and Reading, Ms. Ruth Herrera; C\u00e9sar Zapata, Director of Literary Management; Le\u00f3n F\u00e9lix Batista, Director of the Poetry Festival; Jos\u00e9 Enr\u00edquez Garc\u00eda, National Publishing Director and Armando Alm\u00e1nzar Botello, Under Director of the National Publishing Office.<\/p>\n<p>The National Literature Award was created through Decree No. 111-05, dated March 23, 2005.
