According to the 2010-2011 General Report on Higher Education Statistics, in total, 41 institution headquarters and 74 campuses are registered as higher education institutions, of which 31 are universities (75.6%), with 56 campuses (75.7%); 6 (14.6%) are specialized institutes of higher education, with 18 campuses (24.3%); and 4 are technical institutes of higher education (9.8%).

Dominican institutes of higher education offer academic programs in various areas of knowledge, for the purpose of training professionals and providing them with the professional abilities and skills necessary to meet the economic, social, and cultural demands both inside the country and abroad.

To learn more about the academic offerings of each of the institutions, please find the complete list following this link:

http://www.mescyt.gob.do/index.php/oferta-academica

http://www.seescyt.gov.do/

One of the core purposes of a university is to foster the creation of new knowledge through scientific, technological, humanistic and social research. A country can raise its standard of living by having highly prepared human resources trained at institutions that are capable of creating knowledge and training visionary professionals who can innovate and design.

It is necessary to integrate teaching and research into a strategy that involves the national and international socioeconomic environment, since the quality of education is directly correlated to the creation of a research culture. The foundation of modern university education is that the student must acquire the spirit of scientific research that stimulates critical thinking and creativity.

In addition to the projects that each institution of higher education carries out, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology has taken steps aimed at strengthening the science and technology system, including the creation of FONDOCYT, which allows the Ministry to request and offer support for the evaluation of research proposals in the area of science, technology and innovation.

To learn about some of the actions and projects, please refer to the following link: http://www.seescyt.gov.do/

National Scholarships

The Department of National Scholarships of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MEESCYT) offers scholastic opportunities to young people with limited resources who have distinguished themselves due to their academic excellence. www.mescyt.gob.do

Fundación APEC de Crédito Educativo (FUNDAPEC)

Contact: Libis Fernández // 809-689-4171 ext. 211 // Av.
