Marriage


Registration of Canonical Marriage Certificate


1.A document from a qualified civilian or an official from the church parish must be remitted to the central electoral junta via judicial consulting apparatus. 


2. An original canonical marriage certificate issued by the parish and duly stamped and sealed by the corresponding church.


3. Identification with photos of both parties (ID card or Passport). This is not obligatory.


Note: These documents must be accompanied by a set of copies of each.


Issuance of Marriage Certificiates


1.Registraion with the Civil registry official must directed to the president of the central electoral board via the judicial consultancy.
 
2. Photocopy of the pertinent part of the paper or document.


3. Extract of the marriage certificate.


4. Sworn declaration.


5. Marriage certificate from the Parish (if it was canonical).


6. Photocopy of identity document (ID or passport).


The Central Electoral Board reserves the right to ask for other documents it deems necessary.


Note: These documents must be accompanied by a set of copies of each.


Request for recognition of certificates 


Recognition of documentation abroad


You will need:


1.A document directed to the president of the central board of elections, via a legal consultancy, requesting the transcription of the document that was elaborated abroad before an official where the person in question is recognized. 
 
2. Certificate of recognition drawn up before the Dominican Consulate whose signature must then be legalized in the Dominican Foreign Ministry.  


3. In the case of a certificate drawn up before a civil registry or a notary public in the country of origin, it must be duly legalized by the Dominican Consulate in the country of origin then by the Dominican Foreign Ministry.



3.1 In case it is not legalized at the Dominican Consulate, the consulate of the country of origin accredited in the Dominican Republic can do the legalization process then have it further legalized by the signature of the Diplomat in the Dominican Foreign Ministry.


3.2 In the event that it is written in another language than Spanish, this document must be translated by a certified translator in the Dominican Republic whose signature must be legalized in the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic.  


4. Long form birth certificate, legalized as the person in question.


5. Photocopy of the ID and voting card or Passport of the Father.


Authorities reserve the right to request other documents they deem necessary.

Claim to contest affiliation or judicial recognition


You will need:



  1. Request for transcription of the disposition of the sentence, directed to the president of the Central Electoral Board, via legal representation.
  2. Recent Court sentence certified by the court secretary, with a photocopy of the same.
  3. Legal records
  4. Notification of the sentence
  5. Certification of non-appeal of the corresponding court.
  6. Any other documents required by the central board of elections that may serve as the basis of the case

Note: These documents must be accompanied by a set of copies.


Transcription of Approval of the sentence pronounced overseas


You will need:



  1. Petition to the president of the board via legal counsel requesting the transcription of the sentence that ordered the approval
  2. The original registered sentence of approval.
  3. Sentence handed down by the foreign court, which must meet the following:

    1. That it be emitted by a recognized international court.
    2. That it have the authority to judge the state where it was dictated
    3. That it meet the conditions of authenticity required by national law, such as:

      * Certification of recognition of the foreign documents by the Dominican Consulate
      * The legal signature of the consul of the Dominican Foreign Ministry
      * Documents translated from another language signed by the authorized Dominican translator of the Federal Attorney General’s office


  4. Submission of any other documents relevant to the request for approval

Note: These documents must be accompanied by a set of copies.


Additionally, in the cases which deal with the recognition, relative to the transcription of documents used overseas will be necessary.


Transcription of the exequatur pronounced overseas


You will need:



  1. Request to the president of the Central Electoral Board via legal counsel requesting the transcription of the sentence.
  2. That the foreign sentence be condemnatory and authorized by the country of origin.
  3. That a Dominican court execute the exequatur.
  4.  Deposit of any other document that was recognized as valid in the corresponding court  That is have the authenticity required by national law, which are:
  5. Dominican consulate certification of the foreign documents recognized in the country;
  6. Legalized signature of the consul of Dominican Foreign Ministry.
  7. Translation to Spanish of documents produced in another language, signed by the authorized Dominican translator.

National or International Private Adoption


Request directed to the president of the Central Electoral Board, via legal counsel, requesting the transcription of the adoption ruling by the corresponding office.



  1. Original registered adoption ruling.
  2. Court certified photocopies of all the documents of the proceeding
  3. Publication of the ruling in a newspaper with national circulation, if so ordered by the ruling.
  4. Notification of the biological parents or Conani, if the child is an abandoned minor.
  5. Court certification of no contest one month after notification of the ruling.

The Central Electoral Board reserves the right to request other documents it deems necessary.


Note: These documents must be accompanied by a set of copies.


Belated Declaration of Death



  1. Request made by the state official to the Central Electoral Board, via judicial counsel.
  2. Death certificate signed and sealed by a doctor, hospital or clinic.
  3. Photocopies of the identity card and elections card of the person making the declaration.
  4. Photocopy of the identity card of the deceased.
  5. (Notarized?) Statement of the place, date and cause of death, signed by at least three witnesses before a notary public or a justice of the peace, legalized by the federal Attorney General’s office.
    In the event that there is no death certificate emitted by a clinic or hospital, or in the event that there are doubts about the veracity of a death certificate or if the death has occurred 20 years prior
  6. Certification expedited by the city which states that the deceased was buried.
  7. Certification of no prior declaration of death by the municipal offices with jurisdiction.

The Central Electoral Board reserves the right to request other documents it deems necessary.


NOTE: The State Office will only request the authorization to register the Belated Declaration of Death if one of the requirements is missing. In the event that all the requirements are presented, the official will register the Belated Declaration of Death without the Board’s approval.


Adjustment (Rectification) of Proceedings


1. Petition of the applicant or of the State official to the president of the Central Electoral Board, via legal representation


2. Recently rendered verdict.


3. Recent legal record of the individuals who took part in the proceedings.


4. Other documents may be requested if deemed necessary, such as:



  • Birth record (hospital, clinic, mayor’s office);
  • Mayor’s certification;
  • Birth certificates of the parents;
  • Marriage certificate;
  • Death certificate;
  • Baptismal record;
  • Inspection record;
  • Limited record;
  • Identity or electoral identity card;
  • Divorce record, among others.

Documents required by foreigners to obtain an identity card


Registration



  • Proof of having received an Identity Card, supplied by the Immigration Office
  • Current Residency Card (photocopied on both sides)
  • Current Passport (photocopy of the page with the individual’s photo and identity information)
  • Blood type
  • Receipt of payment

Renewal



  • Current passport (photocopy of the page with the individual’s photo and identity information)
  • Current Residency Card (photocopied on both sides)
  • Identity card
  • Receipt of payment

Change of documents



  • Current passport (photocopy of the page with the individual’s photo and identity information)
  • Current Residency Card (photocopied on both sides)
  • Identity card
  • Marriage Certificate (TO CHANGE FROM SINGLE TO MARRIED)
  • Divorce record (TO CHANGE FROM MARRIED TO SINGLE)
  • Receipt of payment

Minors with residency



  • Proof to expedite the identity card, supplied by the Immigration Office
  • Current passport (photocopy of the page with the individual’s photo and identity information)
  • Current Residency Card (photocopied on both sides)
  • Identity card
  • Blood type
  • Receipt of payment

The cost of each process is RD$1,200.00
