Armando Bermúdez National Park


This National Park is located in abrupt relief. Along with the José del Carmen Ramírez National Park, this Park shares the highest altitude of the Antilles represented by the Pico Duarte which is 3,175 mts. high, followed by the Picos La Pelona (3,038 mts.). The park’s flora is mainly composed by the creole pines. 


In the avifauna, the birds that stand out are the parrot, endemic from the Hispaniola; the woodpecker; the cigua palmera declared national bird; the papagayo and the guaraguao. Between the mammals, the cimarron hog, the jutia and the mouse can be highlighted. There are also savannah snakes in the lower part of the forest.


During December and January, temperatures decrease below zero at dawn, in some cases they reach 8 degrees below zero; at daybreak during winter, frost covers the grasslands.
