Sosúa, Puerto Plata, July 9, 2015

The diving schools of Sosúa joined together in their second day of cleaning up the dive sites along Sosúa Beach, as part of an initiative recommended by Canadian diver, Bill Passmore.

The first Monday of each month, participating groups meet in the parking lot of Sosúa Beach (at the Batey entrance), to take part in the maintenance and preservation of the area’s marine ecology.

The initiative has support from the Association of Sustainable Development of Sosúa (ADSS in Spanish). As was the case in the first cleanup on June 2nd, volunteers removed all sorts of objects, such as glass bottles, plastic containers, car tires, and many other items that disrupt and prevent the marine ecosystem from fully developing, apart from ruining the environment for diving enthusiasts and visitors to the beach. The cleanup operation went on from 8 am to 4 pm, and involved more than 20 divers, led by the main diving schools in the area.

The participating schools were: Aqua Adventures by Scuba Dive Sosúa, Vive Cabarete, Dive Center Merlin Sosúa, Northern Coast Diving, Aqua Sports and Dive Technic Service.

The cleanup covered, among other areas, dive spots such as “Las Tres Piedras” and “The Wall” of the Gregorio Luperón Airport, which are preferred by diving aficionados for their unique beauty and attractive marine life.
