Barahoneros living in New York enjoyed the documentary Descubre Barahona-Pedernales: Orgullo de mí Tierra

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) celebrated last Monday, October 6, 2014 another successful Dominican Get Together in N.Y. with the screening of the documentary Descubre Barahona-Pedernales: Orgullo de mí Tierra, event hosted by the “Asociación de Barahoneros de N.Y.”, held at the Isabella Home Center.

Yamile Eusebio, Director of GFDD N.Y office, welcomed everyone and expressed the importance of supporting the initiatives of the Dominican diaspora, that with so much effort and dedication seek a better future for their families. “Through the Dominican Get Together we seek to reinforce the pride of being Dominican, to love our roots and feel happy to belong to a country full of joy and flavor,” she emphasized. Ms. Eusebio acknowledge the efforts of Frank Adolfo of the “Asociación de Barahoneros de N.Y.”, for the great work done by his initiative.

The screening was attended by a large group of people, who had the opportunity to watch GFDD’s institutional video as well as the documentary, produced by Centro Cuesta Nacional (CCN). The attendees had the chance to learn about the religious beliefs, local folklore, cuisine and ecological diversity of Barahona and Pedernales. Guest speaker was Mr. Virgilio Gautreaux Piñeyro, who spoke about the challenges of the province of Barahona.

GFDD is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the advancement of global collaboration and exchange relevant to Dominican professionals, general audiences and institutions in the homeland and abroad. The Foundation conducts research, enhances public understanding, designs public policies, devises strategies, and offers capacity building in areas crucial to social, economic, democratic and cultural sustainable development.
