The Ministry of Culture (MINC), together with the Embassy of Spain, will hold The Long Night of Museums, Fall 2014, on Saturday, September 27th, thereby kicking off the celebration of The Week of Spain in the Dominican Republic. The event, which was held successfully by the Spanish Embassy last year, is repeated this time in cooperation with the MINC.


The Fall edition of the Long Night of Museums will be dedicated to the shared customs between Spain and the Dominican Republic through time: food, music, dancing, clothing, language, literature, and all the cultural elements from 1492 to the present.


As usual, this cultural event will run from 9:00 am until midnight. There will be artistic, recreational and cultural activities, absolutely free of charge, to share with friends and family in a pleasant, cheerful, and safe way, but above all, to learn about our heritage and our culture in general.


The following museums will be open free of charge with guided tours at each museum: Alcázar de Colón, Casas Reales, the Telecommunications Cultural Center, the Banreservas Cultural Center, Trampolín Museum, the Santo Domingo Fortress, the Cultural Center of Spain, Foto Imagen, and Casa de Teatro.


The opening ceremony will be attended by the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, and the Ambassador of Spain, Mr. Jaime La Cadena Higuera, who will formally open the event in the Los Gobernadores courtyard of the Museum Las Casas Reales, at 6:30 pm.


This edition will highlight in each activity the most relevant aspects of shared customs of both countries, represented in the Alcázar de Colón, Casas Reales, Casa de Tostado and Santo Domingo Fortress museums.


Las Casas Reales Museum and the Museum of the Dominican Man will put on display an exhibition of underwater and pre-hispanic archeology. It will take place in the temporary exhibition hall of Las Casas Reales Museum. A sample of the food will be presented at the Santo Domingo Fortress, accompanied by music and dancing. Fashion will make a statement at the Alcázar de Colón Museum, accompanied by Dominican and Spanish music.


The Ministry of Culture, through The Long Night of Museums, seasons’ edition, is held 4 times a year. It aims for Dominicans and visitors to the country to enjoy the cultural policies set out in the government program of the President of the Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina Sánchez, and the current Minister of Culture, to promote the valuable and relevant cultural heritage of the Dominican society.
