Hundreds of people gathered in the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts to attend the concert by “Ensamble Spiritousi”. Proceeds from the concert would benefit the Nido para Ángeles Foundation, which is under the direction of Mónika Despradel, wife to the Minister of Culture.

The concert was meant to be enjoyed from start to finish as a way of supporting an institution that works helping children with cerebral palsy. This institution operates under a unique free of cost model, and assists 86 children directly and 450 people indirectly.

The famous quintet, which is visiting the Caribbean region for the first time, is made up by the Peña Comas sisters who are Dominican: Nathalie (soprano), Nicole (cello), and Evelyn (flute); alongside guitarists Damien Lancelle (French), and Jonathan Bolívar (Venezuelan).

Among the attendees of the charitable event were: Mr. José León; the Ambassador of Germany, Victoria Zimmermann; the Director of Fine Arts, Félix Germán; and the host, Mónika Despradel.

The program started with instrumental pieces written by J. A. Hernández, and Dominican dances such as Sarandunga, Guarapo and Yuca.

Later on, the voices and instruments merged to offer pieces such as: Ninfa del Ama, by Bienvenido Brens, with arrangements by Juan Carlos Paniagua; and Alma Llanera, by P. E. Gutiérrez and Rafael Bolívar Coronado.

Other pieces that the public enjoyed and enthusiastically applauded were: La papillon et la fleur, au bord de l’eau, by G. Fauré; Agustín Lara’s Mandoline Granada; and Carlos Gardel’s El día que me quieras; among other pieces.

The group opted for a fresh, colorful and very dynamic musical repertoire, taking as a starting point, classical and popular compositions from Latin America and the rest of the world.
