The National Directorate of Folklore, under the Ministry of Culture, laid a wreath at the Altar de la Patria (Altar of the Homeland) to mark the “Day of the National Folklore” on Monday, February 10th.
Musician and anthropologist Edis Sánchez, Director of the agency, led the ceremony, which was also attended by cultural managers, agency staff, and students of the Lycée Estados Unidos de América.

The school band sang the notes of the Dominican Anthem. During the ceremony the audience remembered the founding fathers Juan Pablo Duarte, Matías Ramón Mella, and Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Mes de la Patria (Month of the Homeland) that is celebrated from January 26th to March 9th.

Dinafolk took advantage of the occasion to present the album “La Patria y la Tradición”, whose songs were composed by Petronila Catalino, a famous cultural figure of the Villa Mella community.

Sánchez stressed the importance of this CD through which tribute is being paid to the Dominican roots.
The production contains 8 songs, including: “Salve a Duarte”, “Himno a la Unidad”, “Hermanas Mirabal”, “Mamá Tingó”, “Himno a la Juventud”, and “Mujer vamos a exigir”, among others.

The first two songs were performed by Petronila Catalino in front of the Altar of the Homeland, where the audience enjoyed their folkloric content and messages.
