Puerto Plata is living its finest moment; the unification of the sector stakeholders, together with the sustained efforts of local institutions, international organizations and the Dominican government, have resulted in a remarkable transformation, with which it intends to build a structure that is conducive to creating high-level tourist conditions with a view to transforming this destination into one of the most important hubs of the Caribbean,” said Karina Abbott, FOMIN Coordinator of Tourism Management Projects based on Cultural Resources, as part of the Discover Puerto Plata Market Place 2013 fair.

The Multilateral Investment Fund is enhancing and strengthening seventeen tourist products, ranging from the historic center of the capital city to all the other municipalities in the province, thereby contributing to the enhancement of Puerto Plata as a tourist destination.


Abbott said that in order to present these innovations to the tour operators and the specialized press who participated in the meeting, excursions to some of these experiences were offered to show them the variety and quality of the improved sites of this destination situated in the Dominican North Shore.


She noted that, with a view to expanding the complementary offerings of the destination, based on its cultural, historical and natural resources, the initiative she coordinates and which is being implemented through the Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster, adds significantly to this new phase of the transformation of the destination.
