The Minister of Education, Mr. Carlos Amarante Baret, reported that at a meeting that was held last weekend, President Medina expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the Committee in charge of the implementation of the National Plan for Land Acquisition, which is being developed by the Ministries of Education and Public Works, along with the Office of Engineers Supervising State Works.

President Medina met with these officials to assess the situation and the state of the negotiations with the owners of the land where the new schools will be built, and who were still waiting to formalize the agreements.

The meeting with the President was also attended by the Governors of the 31 provinces where the land is located.

“President Medina acknowledged the Ministry of Education’s compliance with the public commitment that had been made ??at the National Palace on August 30th, to acquire, in the shortest time possible, the land where the projected schools will be built,” Amarante Baret said.

He noted that there is still a small number of unresolved cases because there is no land available for acquisition. To date, the Education Commission has negotiated 289 additional lots of land since last August. That land is already in the hands of the construction Engineers for surveying, so that construction of the schools that will be part of the Extended School Day program can begin immediately.

The Land Acquisition Committee is composed of Vernon Cabrera, President, and Blasina Reyes, Executive Director, who represent the Ministry of Education.
