Cultural managers from the provinces of Barahona, Pedernales, Independencia and Bahoruco presented at mid-morning this Saturday their respective cultural projects that would be financed by the Ministry of Culture.


The meeting was headed by the Cabinet of the Ministry of Culture, presided over by Minister José Antonio Rodríguez, who arrived in this city this Saturday accompanied by other officials of the State agency.


Doctor Carlos Salcedo leads the Cabinet of the Ministry of Culture, whose other members are: Carlos Santos, Coordinator of the Vice-Ministry of Institutional Development; Nerva Fondeur, Coordinator of the Vice-Ministry of Cultural Heritage; Alberto Valenzuela, General Technical Director, and Luis Brea Franco, Advisor to the Minister of Culture.


Luis Peña Rubio, Governor of Barahona, and Ángel Odalis Pérez, Governor of Pedernales, also sat at the head table during the event, which was held in one of the halls of the Costa Larimar Hotel. This is the first session of the National Call for Cultural Projects issued by the Ministry of Culture


The first speaker was Cultural Manager Osmaly Yaneris Díaz Nova, on behalf of the Pentecostal Agency for Development, who presented the project entitled Artesanía, Cultura y Desarrollo Sin Límites (Crafts, Culture and Development Without Limits) for people with disabilities.


The second intervention was that of Florián Pérez, on behalf of Fundación Tierra Blanca (White Earth Foundation) from Bahoruco, who presented the project called “Reedición de obras Literarias en la región de Enriquillo (Reissue of Literary Works in the Enriquillo Region).”


The third presentation was delivered by Petronilo Antonio Peña José, on behalf of the Association of Art and Culture, with the project “Recital Provincial de la Voz para la provincia Duvergé.” On behalf of the municipality of Duvergé, Cultural Manager Petronilo Antonio Peña José, also presented the project “Ruta Histórica de la Batalla de la Trinchera o el Cantón (Historical Route of the Battle of the Trench or the Region).”


On behalf of the Barahona province, Cultural Manager Gustavo Antonio Díaz Feliz presented the projects “Escuela de Danza y Percusión y Folclórica de la República Dominicana (School of Dance and Percussion and Folklore of the Dominican Republic),” and “Trigésimo Festival Palo Sur (Thirtieth Palo Sur Festival).”
Late in the afternoon, other proposals also focusing on the restoration of the full value and rescue of literature, folklore and music, were still pending to be presented. Projects also focus on providing music bands with equipment and creating local offices for the Ministry of Culture.


Prior to the presentation of the projects, the city of Barahona recognized the Minister of culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, as a distinguished guest. Then, the Ministry of Culture designated Barahona as Cultural City of the Enriquillo Region, in recognition of its contributions in the dissemination and exposure of culture in said region.
