Mounting of XVI International Book Fair Underway in Culture Plaza

With the installation of seven large pavilions in the Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza, preparations for the 16th International Book Fair are getting underway. The Book Fair, organized by the Ministry of Culture and the General Directorate of the Book Fair of the Dominican Republic, will take place in Santo Domingo from April 22 to May 4.

Organizers of the construction include the Culture Minister, José Antonio Rodríguez;Book Fair executives, ValentínAmaro (Director General of Books and Reading) and Pedro Antonio Valdez (Executive Director of the Book Fair) as well as Melvin Leonel Pérez (Operations Coordinator).

The Book Fair’s new poster was also put into circulation. The poster was initially designed by the late Harold Priego who passed away while in the process of making the poster.

In a walk through the plaza, one can see theflurry of activity of architects, engineers, electricians and workers putting up the infrastructure to welcome the hundreds of writers, publishers, exhibitors and visitors. Places are also being set up for conferences, roundtables, artistic activities and food exhibition booths.

A team of men and women are working on the installation of cabañas, pavilions and stands that will be set up all around the Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza.

A communiqué from the General Directorate of Communication at the Ministry of Culture stated that, withinthe perimeter of the plaza, there will be seven large pavilions belonging to the Ministry of Culture and 220 national and international stands set up throughout the fairgrounds.

In the coming hours, the names of the invited international writers and intellectuals will be released.

Organizers report that nearly all the personnel who will be working at the Fair has been completed at this point.

This year’s guest of honor at the Book Fair isthe country of Ecuador, who will send a large and representative delegation. The Fair will be dedicated to Dominican writer, Hilma Contreras, and will pay homage to Juan Pablo Duarte on the bicentennial of his birth.
