Alfaguara Announces Launch of René Rodríguez Soriano’s Book “Solo de flauta”

A book of words where music stands out.

In addition, he will join in talks given on Mondays in the Casa de Teatro [House of Theatre], on March 11th; a talk given at the Narrators Workshop in Santo Domingo, in the Culture bookshop, Friday March 15th, and Tuesday the 19th in the talk organized by Eduardo Gautreau de Wind, in Laborato-rioEvolutivo del Arte Contemporáneo en El Conde.

The new book by Dominican writer René Rodríguez Soriano will be published under the Alfaguara label and its launch is scheduled to take place March 18th in the Cuesta bookstore in Santo Domingo at 6:30 in the afternoon. Writers Martha Rivera-Garrido and Frank Báez will launch the book.

“Solo de flauta” is like an extensive fresco that attempts to summarize all the dreams, all the games and all the passions of telling stories out of the set boundaries; prose and poetry mixed together in a duality that entertains and enchants with the borders of the text stopping prematurely.

Rodríguez Soriano, sponsored by Alfaguara, will give presentations Saturday March 9th in Constanza (Cultural MultipurposeÑañín), Wednesday the 13th in San Cristóbal (AníbalMontaño Literary Foundation), and Thursday the 14th in Puerto Plata (Casa de Cultura, House of Culture).

“During the first few pages we ask ourselves what kind of book is this,” says Luis Lopez Nieves, renowned Puerto Rican writer. “Is it a novel, a story book, is it prose or poetry, short stories, a memoir? Little by little the answer starts to matter less. We soon realize that it’s simply a book in which music is the main player, period.”

René Rodríguez Soriano is a Dominican writer and editor who has lived in the United States since 1998. He has received awards such as the Talent Seekers International Award 2009-2010, the UCE Poetry Prize 2008, the UCE Novel Prize 2007, the José Ramón López National Short Story Prize of the Dominican Republic 1997, among others. He has published, Todos los juegos el juego (1986), Su nombre, Julia (1991), La radio y otros boleros (1996), Queda la música (2003), Sólo de vez en cuando (2005), El mal del tiempo (2008) and Tientos y trotes (2011). He has also worked intensely on disseminating and promoting Latin-American literature through the magazine mediaIsla.
