Cibao Jazziao, Sabrina Estepan’s initiative, was born from the idea of putting together a high quality repertory with local flavor for the 15th annual “DR Jazz Festival” held in Puerto Plata in 2011. The result is a compendium of finely-honed songs that incorporate the music and spirit of the fertile region that isCibao.


The repertory will include 14 songs composed in the 20th century by very important writers and selected for the cultural elements each of them contain whether for their lyrics, music, rhythm or their affable spirit that captures the idiosyncrasies of Cibao …


Other singers performing with the jazz trio, Jazz and Sabrina Estepan,are vocalists from Cibao: Juan Lockward, Rafael Solano and Manuel Sánchez Acosta who have been involved in the world of jazz, blues, scat and open harmony in a perfect mix of balads, bolemengues and iconic merenguesfrom these composers.


The repertory will include 14 songs composed in the 20th century by very important writers and selected for the cultural elements each of them contain whether for their lyrics, music, rhythm or their affable spirit that captures the idiosyncrasies of Cibao, with new arrangements done especially for this project.


CibaoJazziaowill take place on Saturday February 23rd at 9:00 PM.


Sabrina Estepan

Singer and composer from the Dominican Republic is involved in several musical genres, such as jazz, pop, disco, alternative rock and classical music.


She studied lyrical and popular song at the National Music Conservatory. She performed as the soprano soloist with the Conservatory Choir and the Juan Pablo Duarte Symphony Orchestra. She also studied Jazz Dance at EcosEspacios de Danza, Elements of Music (piano) at the Institute of Culture and Art (ICA), took the Vocal Technique Workshop under Bulgarian Professor TzvetankaStoilova, a Master Class with jazz musician Michael Camilo and Italian tenor, Octavio Palmarie at the National Theater.


Over the course of her musical career, she has been a vocalist in various groups such as del Eco and the Groovadelics.
