The celebration of the Dominican Museums has been scheduled for Saturday, December 8, from 9 am until 12 midnight.On that day, 20 museums will open their doors to celebrate the Extended Museum Nightin style.


Under the leadership of the General Museums Directorate, the museums and the cultural spaces and centers that will participate in this event, have worked very hard to create a program that captures the interest of their visitors.


On this occasion, culture will be expressed in its various forms, but with the same common goal: that the Dominican family enjoys a night of adventure, full of music, theater, dance, workshops, guided tours and the re-enactment of scenes from colonial life, among other cultural expressions.


The Ministry of Culture has organized this activity since 2008, and each yearit strengthens the programming in a dynamic way, so that both Dominicans and foreigners alike visit the museums, appreciate their exhibits and enjoy an attractive art project.


Under the leadership of the General Museums Directorate, the museums and the cultural spaces and centers that will participate in this event, have worked very hard to create a program that captures the interest of their visitors.


Some of the objectives of this event are to facilitate the access of national and international audiences to public and private museums within the country so that they enjoy the cultural goods and services that are being offeredin an entertaining manner. Also, the aim is to promotethe cultural heritage that the museums offer so that people become aware of their importance and function.


Some of themuseums and cultural centers that are participatingduring this year’s celebration are: in the Colonial City, the XIX Century Museum of the Dominican Family, Fortaleza de Santo Domingo (Fortaleza Ozama), the Trampolín Children’s Museum, the Las Casas Reales Museum, theBellapart Museum, theAlcázar de Don Diego Colón Museum, the Palacio Consistorial, the Telecommunications Dominican Museum, the Centro de la Imagen,and the Centro de Inventario.


Meanwhile, in the Plaza de la Cultura, the followingmuseums and cultural centerswill open their doors: the Museum ofModern Art, the Museum of the Dominican Man and the Natural History Museum. In East Santo Domingo, the Columbus Lighthouse; in Santiago, the Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center; in Puerto Plata, the San Felipe Colonial Fortress; and in Altos de Chavón, La Romana, the Archaeological Museum.
