Culture Ministry Awards Carnival 2009 Winners

The Ministry of Culture handed out awards and certificates to this year’s winners of the “National Carnival Parade of 2009” at an event presided over by the Deputy Administrative Minister, Alexander Santana. The event was held in the lobby of the ministry.


A total of 190 troupes from 3 provinces around the country, Santo Domingo East, Santo Domingo North, Santo Domingo West and the District Capital, participated in the event.


A total of 190 troupes from 3 provinces around the country, Santo Domingo East, Santo Domingo North, Santo Domingo West and the District Capital, participated in the event. The winning troupe for Carnival 2009 is “Los Zanganos,” from San Juan de la Maguana, receiving prize money of 250,000 pesos.


The key address was given by Alexander Santana while the artistic presentation was under the direction of the Grand Prize winning troupes corresponding to “Los Zánganos” and the first prize of the Ali Baba category corresponding to “Sigh in Venice from the National District.”


Prizes were awarded by Deputy Administrative Minister, Alexander Santana; Deputy Minister of Institutional Development Mateo Morrison; Director General of Folklore, Xiomarita Pérez; National Director of the Provinces, Domingo Guerrero; Director of Management and Carnival, Ramón Lachapelle; Director of Neighborhood Culture, José Cuello; Director of Culture of Santo Domingo East, Guillermo Martínez; and the deputy director of Popular Participation, Tony Estrella.
