Dominican Expo 2009 in Puerto Rico

The Dominican Office of Tourism Promotion (OPT in Spanish) in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Plaza shopping center are collaborating in the Dominican Republic Expo 2009. The Expo is being held at the Caribbean Plaza, the largest shopping center in the southern region of Puerto Rico.

The Expo is held every year for two weeks prior to Mother’s Day, the busiest shopping period at the Caribbean Plaza. The event, according to the Dominican Tourism Ministry (SECTUR), is attracting many delighted visitors.

“Three years ago, we had the Dominican Republic as the guest of honor and it was such a success that we decided to invite them again this year. On this occasion the exhibitions are concentrated in tourism and cultural attractions offered by the DR’s cosmopolitan city of Santo Domingo,” said Susana Santiago, Market Manager of the Caribbean Plaza.

“It is an honor for the Dominican Tourism Ministry that Puerto Rico has extended the invitation to share in this event and to show off the treasures of our capital with inhabitants of Ponce as well as residents of the country’s southern region,” said Francisco Javier Garcia, Tourism Minister. “With this exhibition we wish to awaken an interest in getting to know, in person, the historic wealth of our monuments, music, the variety of Dominican artwork as well as the many alternative hotels offered in the First City of America.”

The Dominican Republic Expo 2009 in Ponce’s Caribbean Plaza began on April 28 and will continue through Saturday May 9. In addition to replicas of important historical structures in the Dominican capital, visitors are enjoying Dominican art and folklore seminars, musical presentations, artisan workshops, contests, presentations on tourism and food stands including a typical Dominican coffee shop open each afternoon. There is all this and lots more surprises.
