Annual “Long Night of Museums” 2019

Santo Domingo, July 26, 2019 – The Ministry of Culture announces its annual “Long Night of Museums: Summer Version,” one of the most awaited events by Dominicans. The event will take place on Saturday, August 3, in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone.

The summer version of the event ushers in the warmest season of the year. This year, the event will celebrate the 507th anniversary of the founding of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone.

This beautiful section of the Dominican Republic’s capital city is known for its majestic colonial structures and cobblestone streets. It is the city’s most important tourist attraction and was declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a Patrimony of Humanity.

This year, the Ministry of Culture – through the General Directorate of Museums – has put together an exquisite artistic and cultural program for the enjoyment of national and international visitors to the traditional Museum event.

The event begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs until midnight. Entrance to all events, museums and historic spaces are free.

Included in the program will be music, theatre, film exhibits, puppet theater, creative workshops, recitals, readings, artistic presentations and exhibits.

The museums that will be open with their traditional and new exhibits will be the Alcázar de Colón (the Royal Palace of Diego, Christopher Columbus’ son); the Royal Houses; the Santo Domingo Fortress; Museo Trampolín, the wax museum of Juan Pablo Duarte, the nation’s founding father; Casa de Teatro and the Museo del Cacao.

Co-sponsors of the event are the Banreservas Cultural Center, Spanish Cultural Center, Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), Sugar Cane and “La Casa Del Ron.”

As has been the tradition, the event will close with a spectacular concert in the heart of the Colonial Zone – the Plaza España. This year, local merengue artist Manny Cruz will play his particular brand of music for everyone’s enjoyment.
