Colours Featured in the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival, Thanks to the Support of the Global Film Festival and the General Film Directorate

Santo Domingo, April 24, 2019 – The Global Film Festival (FCGD), in coordination with the Dominican Republic’s General Film Directorate, will participate for the first time the in the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival, thanks to the new initiative titled DR Global in Cannes. Both organizations have come together to present at the prestigious event the Dominican film Colours. The film will be exhibited on May 21, at 2:00 p.m. (French Local Time) at the Palais G.

This Dominican film, the opera prima of director Luis Cepeda, was first exhibited at the last FCGD Festival where it received the highest honor from the audience. The film was shown three times before a packed auditorium.

“With the presentation of Colours, DR Global in Cannes will be a permanent member of the Marché du Film of the
Cannes Film Festival. From now on Dominican films that are recognized for their world-class quality during the Global Film Festival will be featured at the event. This is definitely a true motivating factor for the Dominican movie industry and we are honored to present our films in the world’s most important film event,” said Omar de la Cruz, FCGD director.

Colours tells the story of a young plastic artist who lives in a distant city. Her work is finally distinguished through a special piece titled “The Unnamed Faces,” which she never signs because, according to her, none of her paintings have been truly completed.

Cast members are Christian Álvarez, Francis Cruz, Stephany Liriano, Uxio Liz and Olga Consuegra.

Cepeda explained that the presentation of Colours in the Marché du Film at Cannes is a great honor for him and his team, because it represents another step taken to pave the way for the Dominican film industry to make its way to the international film industry.

“I infinitely appreciate the efforts carried out by the Global Film Festival and the Dominican Film Directorate for this tremendous distinction, for which I am extremely grateful. The Dominican film industry continues to grow in leaps and bounds and with transcendental productions, and I am so pleased to see it mature year after year,” stated the film’s director.

At the same time, Yvette Marichal, the Film Institute’s director, also commented: “We are committed to support this initiative, which is in line with the work we have carried out in our participation in the Marché du Film at Cannes, where we have our own stand.

She also added: “Some of the top highlights achieved during 2018 are the agreements reached with filmmaker Dilia Pacheco, with various Latin American countries, and with Rumania. Also, Dominican film director José María Cabral reached an agreement to sell his film “El Proyeccionista” in the international market. Exhibiting our Dominican films in this market will continue to open doors to our filmmakers and reconfirm, even more, how easy it is to film in Paradise.”

The Marché du Film is the largest international community of professional filmmakers in the world. More than a simple gathering, for the past 60 years the event has been a key launching ground for the creation, production and distribution of films throughout the world. Today, Marché du Film is inspired by the diversity of actors that come together to celebrate this event. Film industry professionals manage to obtain financing, discuss their projects with other colleagues, and become familiar with the latest trends in the film industry.
