Dominican Embassy in Ottawa Celebrates Gastronomic and Cultural Festival to Commemorate 65th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between Both Nations

Ottawa, February 20, 2019 – The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Canada, in cooperation with the country’s Ministry of Tourism, will celebrate a three-day gastronomic and cultural festival in Ottawa to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between both nations.

For a second consecutive year, Santo Domingo – the Dominican Republic’s capital city – has been chosen as the gastronomic capital of the Caribbean by the Ibero-American Gastronomic Academy and the Royal Spanish Academy of Gastronomy.

The event is the perfect setting to highlight the Dominican Republic’s rich culinary tradition.

The Festival is scheduled to take place from February 25-27 at the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel, situated in the very center of the Canadian capital. The festival agenda includes seminars, daily lunches with menus prepared by Dominican chefs Indhira Peguero and Paulette Tejada, cultural exhibits, business meetings, and much more.

Festival organizers have also included the participation of representatives from the country’s tourism, health, agricultural and gastronomic sectors. The goal is to bring to Canada an educational and productive event that will highlight the many attractions of the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Ambassador in Canada, Pedro Vergés Ciman – along with members of the diplomatic mission – and the Office of Tourism in Montreal, will formally open the event. Invited guests include representatives from Canadian airline companies, tour operators, media outlets, private sector representatives, members of Parliament and Canadian officials.
