Sofia Gonzalez, from DR to Berklee

Her flutist soul took Sofia Gonzalez to Berklee College of Music. It was all part of a long process which started with a newspaper posting. Then, she auditioned with 100 other candidates and winded up as the only female of the first generation who was awarded the “Michael Camilo Scholarship”.

She just finished her first semester and is returning from a Tour in which she performed for the Jordanian King’s wife and the first lady of the United States, Ms. Laura Bush. Thus, Sofia is an example worth mentioning, showing that you build your dreams as you go. For her, Berklee is a world of opportunities open to those who know how to take advantage of it.

Even though the semester was not easy, it was worth it without any doubts: Gonzalez auditioned and was chosen for “Roads to you”; a tour that brings together musicians from different parts of the world, thanks to the collaboration of The Bakarat Foundation, Berklee College of Music and Seeds of Peace.

Today, along with other scholarship recipients, she faces the challenge that awaits in the classrooms of one of the most important private institutions of contemporary music.
She has several plans for the future: perform with Michel Camilo, give concerts around the world, pursue a master’s degree and have the opportunity to direct an orchestra.
