The book, “Stellar Moments of the Rio Group Summit in Santo Domingo,” written by journalist Emilia Pereyra, was launched last Thursday at the National Palace in the presence of Dominican President Leonel Fernández.

The book recounts the details of the XX Rio Group Summit of Heads of State and Government which took place between March 4-7 in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo, according to a press release from the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

Upon introducing the book, Rafael Núñez, Director of the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity, said the publication contains important and informative themes and updated policy information and that will serve as an instructive resource for diplomatic schools, politicians, government officials, men and women involved in communication and for the general population.  

At the book launching ceremony a video was shown of the most important moments at the Rio Group Summit. The video showed speeches made by President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela, President Rafael Correa of Ecuador, President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia and the Summit’s host and moderator, Dominican President Leonel Fernández.

President Fernández, at the head of the table along with his wife, First Lady Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, was accompanied by Foreign Minister Morales Troncoso, Presidential Press Director Rafael Núñez, Presidential Administrative Secretary Luis Manuel Bonetti and Executive Judicial Consultant, César Pina Toribio.

Also present at the book launching was the President of the Supreme Court, Jorge A. Subero Isa, President of the Chamber of Deputies, Julio César Valentín and the Papal Nuncio of Santo Domingo Joseph Wesolowisky.  

In addition, civil and military officials, members of the diplomatic corps including consuls general, political leaders and members of the press were also at the book launching.
