“Dominican Workers Movement” Photo Exhibit Opens
The Ministry of Culture announced the opening of the “Dominican Workers Movement” photo exhibit on display at the Narcizo González of Villa Juana Cultural Center in the Silvano Lora Hall.
“It is very significant that today we are inaugurating this exhibition for the second time and further demonstrating the historical and social context that it represents for the country’s working class,”
The photo exhibition recently won the award for Best Historic Exhibition at the 11th International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2008 where it was on display in the National Archives Pavilion.
The “Dominican Workers Movement” show includes 45 22x30, 44x65 and 44x10 photographs including pictures of 30 Dominican historians.
The presentation is a depiction of one of the country’s most important labor movements in which the protagonists struggled for the cause of workers’ rights as well as the movement’s evolution over time.
Ramón Lachapelle, director general of the Cultural Center, gave the main speech at the opening of the exhibition. He said history lessons contained in these photos serve to familiarize working people with the facts and events that have occurred over the course of Dominican history.

Present at the exhibition’s opening, in addition to the general public, was Graciela Azcarate from the National Archives, Alfredo Castillo, Director of Management and Animation at the Culture Ministry and Ramón Coiscou, curator of the Silvano Lora Hall.
The exhibition will open to the public until July 10, 2008.
