“New Perspectives: The Dominican Republic” to be presented in Barcelona
The Dominican Consulate in Barcelona invites you to the photographic exhibition and presentation of Anne Casale’s and Natasha Despotovic’s book New Perspectives: The Dominican Republic. The photographic exhibition, based on the book written by the two authors, is a collection of 400 aerial pictures of the Dominican Republic. The photos show beaches, mountains, valleys from the most obscure corners of the country to the most important cities.
The aspiration of GFDD/FUNGLODE is for the book to be converted into a point of reference for the national population and numerous Dominicans living abroad as well as for the many foreign tourists and tourism promotion companies.
The photo exhibition and presentation of the book – edited in 2007 by the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister organization the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) with a prologue by Dominican President Leonel Fernández – will take place on May 9 at 19:30 at the Dominican Consulate at 211 Paris St. 7th Floor in Barcelona, Spain. The photographer, Anne Casale, will be present.
With the inauguration of this exhibition, the book will then be released for sale to the public. Fifteen photographs from the book have been blown up and will also be on view during the opening hours of the Consulate.
This exhibition is part of a series of activities being carried out by the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Barcelona since that inauguration of its new offices this past August. The goal of the Consulate is to promote Dominican art and culture in the Spanish Catalonian Region.
Part of this initiative includes the “From Door to Door” exhibition in which three well-know Dominican artists, living in Barcelona, are participating. In addition, the “Colors of Carnival” photographic exhibition is also underway.
At the same time, the Consular office has organized orientation seminars, cultural activities and has recently created an electronic bulletin for biweekly distribution that has garnered positive commentaries on various Latin American as well as Catalonian radio stations.
The Book
New Perspectives:The Dominican Republic contains some 400 aerial photographs of the country taken from a helicopter. It is divided into 9 chapters: Reflections, Coasts, Highlands, Lowlands, History, Cities, People, Tourism and Work. Each chapter contains an informative text about the many aspects of history, culture, nature and contemporary life in the DR.
The aspiration of GFDD/FUNGLODE is for the book to be converted into a point of reference for the national population and numerous Dominicans living abroad as well as for the many foreign tourists and tourism promotion companies. It can also serve as a source of inspiration for amateur and student photographers and anyone who wants to get to know the Dominican Republic better.
