Over the past two years, the Executive Committee for Tourism Infrastructure (Ceiztur) has carried out, and is still in the process of working on, projects worth US$88,067,931 dollars, currently equivalent to nearly RD$3 billion (RD$2,981,980,143.66).

CEIZTUR is an official entity within the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), presided over by Minister Félix Jiménez. Engineer José Aponte is the Executive Director of CEIZTUR.

Of the amount invested by CEIZTUR in these projects, nearly half (US$42,849,981) corresponds to projects involving the development of sanitation systems. Another US$22, 044,971 was invested in the Beach Renovation Program, according to a press release from the Ministry of Tourism.

The remainder of the investment has been used in the following ways: road building and highway repair (US$9,424,265); highway feasibility studies (US$1,144,196); streets, sidewalks and curbs (US$2,522,908); apartment building (US$7,876,984); aqueducts (US$1,022,506) and other projects amounting to US$1,182,120.

Among the areas where tourism value has increased notably as a result of this work, according to studies done in the sector, are Las Terrenas, Samaná, Cabarete and Puerto Plata. In the latter, water treatment plants and sanitary systems have been created and improved. The municipality of Sosúa, as well as Puerto Plata, have benefitted from the apartment complexes of Villa Liberación in which 672 families, who formerly lived in substandard conditions, are now living in this modern urban renewal center.

Other work includes the highway road that connects Punta Cana with Miches and Sabana de la Mar, the highway that connects Puerto Plata with Montecristi, the Tourism Corridor of de Montaña, that will go from Monción to San Jose de las Matas; the finishing of the Jarabacoa-Rio de Constanza road, the Marginal of Higuey-La Otra Banda highway and the reconstruction of the Otra Banda to Verón road.
