    Motorcycles and Vans Given to Officials to Step Up Security in Tourist Areas

    The Secretary of State for Tourism (Sectur) and various hotel companies have given 36 motorcycles and four vans to the National Police and to the Tourism Police with the objective of beefing up protection in the country’s tourism areas.

    Twenty four of the motorcycles and two of the vans were given to the National Police while the remaining 12 motorcycles and the other two vans will be used by the Tourism Police (Politur), according to a press release from the Press and Communications Office of the Sector.

    The donation was received by the chief of police, Major General Rafael Guillermo Guzmán Fermín and by the Director of Politur, Police Colonel Manuel G. Rodríguez Miranda, from the Deputy Secretary of Tourism for International Affairs, Luis Simó who was representing the Secretary of Tourism Félix Jiménez. Representing the private, the donation was handed over to the officials from Juan Bancalari.

    Simó explained that the motorcycles are Yamaha Grasshoppers and were donated by Sectur while the Nissan dual cabin vans were given by Cap Cana, Metro Group and Rincón Bay companies.

    He indicated that the total amount of the vehicles’ worth was $130,000, which equivalent to 4.29 million Dominican pesos. He added that this donation fulfills a request of the National Police for equipment to reinforce security in the touristic areas of the country.

    Security in the most important hotel areas to be reinforced by the PN and Politur are the Colonial Zone, Punta Cana, Macao, Bávaro, La Romana, Bayahíbe, Boca Chica, Juan Dolio, Guayacanes, Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete, Río San Juan, Gaspar Hernández, Cabrera, Samaná, Las Terrenas, Jarabacoa, Constanza, Montecristi, Las Salinas de Baní, Barahona and Enriquillo.

    The handing over of the vehicles took place in the parking lot of the Tourism Office in the presence of officials from Sectur, Politir and the PN.
