SESPAS Announces: Operation Reconstructive Surgery

The Secretary of State for Public Health and Social Assistance (SESPAS) announced today that beginning Monday September 10th until Thursday September 13th they will be undertaking Operation Reconstructive Surgery with the participation of a team of Plastic Surgeons from the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Institute of Venezuela in conjunction with the Surgical Team of the Secretary of State for Public Health and Social Assistance (SESPAS). All surgical treatments will be totally free of charge and will be carried out at the Professor Juan Bosh Hospital for Trauma in Pino, la Vega.

Currently more than 150 cases have already been registered to receive the procedure during this period. 

This important medical program is being coordinated with the assistance of Dr. Séntola Martinez and Dr. Félix Hernández, director of Juan Bosh Hospital. Both physicians confirm that the goal of the program is to improve the physical and mental health of those patients who suffer from deformations and who do not have sufficient economic resources to undergo such costly surgery. It is especially sensitive in the case of children born with malformations which make their insertion and acceptance into society a sad and difficult situation. Operation Surgery seeks to draw a smile on the faces of all these children who will be treated.

“Operation Surgery is in response to a government objective that seeks to alleviate the financial burden of anyone in need of this surgery and is unable to afford it for lack of resources,” said Dr. Martinez. “In addition, they will receive this service in a humanitarian manner with warmth as well as quality.” He also took advantage of the occasion to thank the Venezuelan people for their solidarity and for sending their imminent professionals “to join us in bringing joy to many Dominican families.”
